Sophie Assumption Lobo our daughter in Christ was called up to our Lord earlier today (Wednesday) while spending the Christmas holidays with her daughters Connie and Juliet, son-in-law and grandchildren for the last week. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, December 31 in Allen, Texas just days from her 85th birthday. You will be consoled to know that this last Christmas was a memorable, joyous and loving celebration spent with all of her loved ones. We will always cherish the special holidays, birthdays and vacations we were able to share with her over the years, especially the family pilgrimage to Goa, India in December 2004 for St. Francis Xavier Exposition. Her Catholic religion was a central pillar to Sophie’s life that helped guide her through many challenges she encountered in life up until her last days she spent with us. Her many close friends and family members both in Karachi, Goa, America and Canada will miss her smiling face.
Sophie, a native of Pakistan of Goan and Portuguese descent, was born Sophie Assumption Preto to the late Mary and Ambrose Preto on January 4, 1930 in Karachi, Pakistan. After having raised her daughters while a divorced single parent in Pakistan to become dutiful, responsible and Christ-loving adults, she migrated to the United States in 1989 and made Texas her first stop on her journey to her newly-adopted home. She is survived by her daughters Connie Kula of Allen, Texas and Juliet-Lobo-Alfonso, wife of Edward Alfonso (deceased) of Amherst, New York, son-in-law Edward Kula and she is the grandmother of Francis Antao, Anthony Alfonso (Christen) and Anna Maria Alfonso, She now is reunited with her siblings Rita, Carmen, Anthony and Joseph Preto of Saddar, Karachi, Pakistan who have preceded her in death. May her soul rest in the comforting hands of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Included below is Sophie’s favorite religious prayer:
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take
Sophie was granted her wish by her Lord and Savior. May You kindly and lovingly tend to her now in Heaven as You welcome her with the words, ”Well done good and faithful servant!”
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association in Sophie’s name.
