

Charlene Ann Boekeloo of Lakeland, Florida, and formally of Kalamazoo, Michigan, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 7, 2025, after a brief illness. Charlene was born on August 15, 1936, in Adrian, Michigan, to Charles and Helen (Mumford) Pool. She married the love of her life, Phillip J. Boekeloo, on February 18,1956, with whom she had three children: David (wife, Linda), Jeffery, and Lisa (husband, Jeff Smith). She also has three grandchildren (Kara Glassen, Matthew Smith, Lauren Boekeloo) and two great-grandchildren (Sutton and Rosie Gail Smith).
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Susan (Pool) Thurston and Mary (Pool) Harris, and daughter Lisa (Boekeloo) Smith. She is also survived by her brother, Avery Pool. She graduated from Deerfield High School in 1954 and moved to Kalamazoo after her marriage where she worked at Bronson Methodist Hospital for over 20 years. She was a member of the Portage Free Methodist Church in Portage, Michigan until 2014, and later at Light and Light Methodist Church in Lakeland, Florida. She enjoyed arts and crafts, vacations with her family, was an avid animal lover and Detroit Tigers fan for many years.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled at Renovation Church in Portage on October 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held at 10:00 preceding the ceremony. A brief luncheon will be served at a location to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Light and Life Free Methodist Church in Lakeland, the Florida Hospice and Palliative Care Association, or Renovation Church in Portage.
