Nellie F. Stratton went to be with her Lord October 7, 2020, where she joined Ray, her husband and best friend of more than 54 years and her beloved granddaughter, Melanie. She was the youngest of 7 siblings. Nellie leaves behind 3 children, sons, David (Brenda), Gary, daughter, Joellen Chevalier (Jim). Six grandchildren, Craig (Mary Kay), Jennifer (Andrew), Cody, Ashlee (Justin), Stacie, and Brent (Melanie’s Husband). Eleven great grandchildren. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Nellie was born in Inman, Virginia on January 3, 1930, to parents Henry and Maude Herron. Inman was a small coal mining town. Her dad worked in a coal mine which made Nellie a true coalminer’s daughter.

She graduated high school as Valedictorian. She was a member of Cork United Methodist Church. Nellie was known for her quick wit and ability to quote poetry and Shakespeare which she did until her last days. When the railroad where Ray worked closed down on Christmas Eve 1959 they moved to Plant City, Florida where they lived and raised their family.

There will be a Visitation on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Wells Memorial Funeral Home, 1903 W. Reynolds Street, Plant City, FL 33563 followed by a Graveside Service at First Baptist Church Dover Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.

My deepest condolences to the Stratton family. Thank you for sharing Ms Nellie with me! She was an amazing woman and I am blessed to have known her. It brought great joy to our family that we were able to share my granddaughter Nixie with her in her last few years. Nixie loved to go see “Granny Nellie”. Granny always had a banana and some candy for her and loved her visits with Nix. She will be missed greatly and thought of fondly!
