Bob was born on March 10, 1931, in Waco Texas at the very beginning of the Great Depression. He grew up in very tough times and those tough times shaped his outlook on life and helped make Bob the caring, loving and hard working husband, father, and man that he was.
Life for Bob really began at the point he joined the US Navy in the Spring of 1950. His love of the Navy is only surpassed by the love he had for his wife, Peg whom he met on his 21st birthday and married six weeks later. He served as a Sonarman on 8 different destroyers and had life adventures that only a sailor would know. Bob shared his most colorful stories about serving on the USS Jonas Ingram. He traveled the world chasing and tracking Soviet submarines helping to keep our nation safe in Cold War times. Bob’s final assignment was as The Master Chief in charge of the Navy Sonar school in Key West FL.
After retiring from the Navy in 1980, Bob had a second career in the marine electronics business, in Key West. He also had a passion for HAM radio and spent many hours talking to people around the world. Bob and Peggy stayed in Key West for another few years, but without the kids to hold them there, they moved a couple of times before settling down in Plant City in 1998.
Bob and Peggy raised five wonderful children, Bobby Jr who passed before his 1st birthday, Patricia, Dianna, David and Pam. Peg was able to raise the kids, for the most part, in Key West, giving them the stability kids thrive on, while Bob served his country on numerous Naval deployments. There was no father or grandfather that gave more or sacrificed more for his family than Bob.
He is preceded in death by Peg, his loving wife of 64 years, son Bobby Jr and daughter Patricia.
He is survived by his children Dianna Everman (Bill), David Fletcher, Pam Norden (Jack) and his grandchildren, David (Kristen), Amanda (Cole), Patricia (Luis) and Matt.
There will be a full Military service at a later date where he will be interred with Peg and Patricia at the National Cemetery in Bushnell.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.WellsMemorial.com for the Fletcher family.
