William B Polly
13 novembre 1932 – 25 mars 2020
William B. Polly, 87, of Plant City, Florida passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. Bill was born on November 13, 1932 in Appalachia, Virginia. He graduated from Appalachia High School in 1952 and was drafted into the United States Navy where he proudly served during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Bill attended the University of Florida where he graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree, and more importantly where he met and married his wife of 62 years, Clare. After graduation, he began a lifelong career in building construction, working in several industries throughout the southeast before returning home to Virginia to join his cousins in Blacksburg constructing buildings for Steel Enterprise, among other ventures. Bill also put those skills to work at home where he was a talented carpenter in his spare time with a love for re-engineering anything he thought he could make just a little bit better by adding his personal touch to it.
Bill had many hobbies and passions including golf, fishing, photography, and attending many, many events involving his children. Bill, affectionally known to his friends and golfing buddies as “Wog,” never met and stranger and he always took joy in reminiscing and telling tall tales with his buddies. He also had a special love for animals and rescued many throughout his years.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Clare L. Polly and his two daughters Lisa and Laurel Polly, all of Plant City, FL. He is also survived by his nephew Ray Harmon and his family, Inez, Ray Jr., Amy and Jason; his cousin and best friend, Robert M. Cranwell and the entire Cranwell family; George and Charles K. Polly and the entire Polly family in Big Stone Gap and Staunton, Virginia; as well as his nieces, nephews, and cousins in Bradenton, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Creed F. and Mary F. Polly; his brothers Jack, Jim, and Frank; sisters Ginny and Jean; and his son William B. Polly, II.
