We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved father Andrew “Andy” Zaichkowsky who passed away on November 8, 2020 at the age of 94.
Left to mourn are his son Mike Zaichkowsky (Elaine), his daughter Joanna Zaichkowsky (Simon); his grandchildren Andrew Zaichkowsky (Lisa) and Deanna Chinerman; his sister Victoria Zukiwsky (Walter), son-in-law Jim Kightley (Zora); as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Predeceased by his loving wife Ann Romanow, his parents Mike Dmytro Zayachkowsky and Kateryna Katerynych, his cherished daughter Zora Zaichkowsky (Jim), his son-in-law Simon Chinerman (Joanna), his siblings John (Mary) and Clara (Pete).
Andy was born in Blaine Lake Saskatchewan and grew up in Hafford Saskatchewan. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1951 with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Toronto where he met his beautiful wife Ann. He started his first job with A.V. Roe Ltd. as a design engineer, working on engine components for the proposed Avro Arrow interceptor aircraft. Andy moved on to work with the Ontario Research Foundation as a research and field engineer, before finally settling in a career spanning four decades with Carthage Machine Company as chief engineer, V.P. Sales, and Senior Consultant. Andy is the holder of two patents for his design work. He was a long-time resident of Beaconsfield, Quebec where he raised his family.
Andy will be remembered as a man of integrity, intelligence, dedicated father and grandfather. He lived life to the fullest and on his own terms. He was steadfast in his beliefs; he was never shy to speak his mind or offer an opinion. He loved life, family, friends, and a good party. Andy will be sorely missed.
The family would like to thank the 4th floor staff at Chateau Westmount for their care and support, especially Lillian and Angela, for their kindness, compassion, and patience.
Friends may attend a visitation with the family from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 14 at Collins Clarke Funeral Home, 222 Autoroute 20 (corner Cartier Ave.), Pointe-Claire. A graveside service will be held immediately following the visitation at 11:30 AM at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Pointe Claire.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local SPCA or charity of choice.
