

It is with deep sorrow we announce the death of our beloved mother Bernice Alice Camacho (nee Hazen). On the morning of March 31st our mother passed away peacefully, in her 90th year, at the Residence Herron nursing home in Dorval Québec.She is pre-deceased by her husband Claude Vincent Camacho, and her second son Paul. Bernice is survived by her children Elizabeth (the late Joseph Jakubiak), Claude, Donald (Joy), Peter (Elaine), Stephen (Fabienne), Alan (Lynn), Philip (Shannon), Andrew, six grandchildren, and Rylee her great-grandson. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Bernice is the daughter of Ford Harold Hazen and Alice Elizabeth Vallis. There, she leaves behind her brothers, The Rev. Dr. F. Harold (the late Betsy Teed), Gordon (the late Gloria Finlay), Donald (Linda West) and sister Pearl Hazen. She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law Patricia Lopes (the late Lloyd Camacho), Rita Perron (the late Gerald Camacho), Desiree Richardson (the late Maurice Camacho) and Gwen Lucas (the late Neville Camacho).In her early twenties, Bernice came to Montréal, working for the Montreal Star newspaper, marrying and later raising her family of one girl and seven boys. In 1983, she graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelor of Commerce. Bernice worked for two accounting firms, working into her seventies at the firm of Collins Barrow.She was a proud and long-time active member of her church, St. Margaret, Tetreaultville, where she taught Sunday school, performed treasurer duties, and participated in many committees of her church and the Anglican Diocese of Montreal. In the 1990's, Bernice became a lay reader for her church, a position she continued to hold until 2016. In 1997, the Anglican Diocese of Montréal presented Bernice with the Bishop's Award to recognize the Christian witness of lay people who have made an outstanding contribution to the life and work of their Parish and the Diocese.Bernice will be profoundly missed by her family and friends, but forever in our hearts.In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Christ Church Cathedral (Montréal) for the Memorial/in-honour gifts.
