

Born in Arvida, QC in 1928, John graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1949 and was a 1955 graduate of Laval Medical School in Quebec City. John did his surgical residency at Massachusetts Memorial in Boston. He opened his surgical practice in Quebec City in 1960 and later served as chief of surgery at Jeffrey Hale Hospital before moving to Montreal in 1980 to work for Alcan Aluminum. While at Alcan, John served as Medical Director until 1987 then was promoted to Senior Vice President of Health and Safety. John retired from Alcan in 1996.
John is survived by his devoted wife Marion, the love of his life. He leaves behind his two loving children, Ann (Peter) and David (Tracy) and his three cherished grandchildren Katie, David and Jack. John is also survived by his beloved sister Grace Petrasek, Etobicoke, ON, and was predeceased by his dear sisters, Ruth Smith of Lexington, MA and Lucy Pigeon of Pierrefonds, QC.
In his spare time, John loved spending time at his cottage at Lake Marois. He enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing in the winter and golfing and fishing in the summer. His greatest joy was hosting family, especially his grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank all of John's physicians and selfless caregivers- all of whom he deeply admired: Dr. Liliane Andre, Dr. Michel White, Josie, Kasra and Myrna. A special thank you to the team at Graceful Living for always going above and beyond.
Services: The funeral service will be held at St. Veronica's Church, 1300 Carson Ave, Dorval on Friday, September 16th, 12:30 p.m., with burial service immediately following at Cote-des-Neiges Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
