30 October 1925 – 16 August 2013
On Friday, August 16, 2013. Johannes van Leeuwenkamp passed away peacefully with his family at his side. Lovingly called "Jochie" by his wife and soul mate, Maria Anna (Rita); "Dad" by his children – Harry (Martine), Mary (died 1994), Ted, Karen (Fred), Ann (John) and Jack (Marie); "Opa" by his grandchildren – Jessica (Fred), Lianne (Jeremy), Evan, Julia (Pat), Tori, Yola, Thomas and Laura; "Jan or Ome Jan or Dodo" by his very large extended family; and "Jan or John" by his friends and neighbours. He also leaves behind a brother and three sisters that made an incredible journey from Holland to surprise him this past spring. He also leaves behind his many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
A family man first and foremost, he was totally devoted to his wife, to his children and his grandchildren. With an untiring work ethic, he was well known and respected for his dependability, honesty and fairness. When he wasn't relaxing in the solarium he built, true to his Dutch upbringing he could be found in one of his flower gardens or wood working in his workshop. The family will receive condolences on Sunday, 25th of August from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Collins Clarke Funeral Home, Pointe-Claire (corner Hwy 20 and Cartier Avenue), followed by a funeral service in the chapel and a reception. Donations can be made in his memory to the Trans Canada Trail, Mary's favourite foundation. Her commemorative plaque can be found in the Old Montreal Pavilion (between rue Prince and rue Mill).
