Born in 1926 in Montreal she was preceded in death by her parents Laura and Lyman and her husband Bruce to whom she was dedicated for 41 years of marriage. Her residences included Hampstead (QC), Pointe Claire(QC), Windsor (ON) and Perth (ON).
Joyce was a proud graduate of McGill University (BA’47). While raising a family, and throughout her life, she consistently did volunteer work for her church and community. In pursuit of continuing education, she studied library technology and worked as a medical librarian.
Joyce loved music, played piano and had a beautiful alto singing voice which she shared with many church choirs. She was skilled at crosswords, needlework, knitting and furniture refinishing. Joyce was known as a wonderful cook and baker, her roast beef dinners and Christmas fruitcakes enjoyed by all.
Joyce's life well-lived included travel with a great interest in other cultures. For many years she was an enthusiastic "winter Texan" enjoying the ocean, birdwatching, her favorite seafood, and the comradeship of friends from all over North America. She also made numerous trips to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.
Joyce is survived by her daughter Heather (Chris), sons David (Katherine), Andrew (Laura), and Ian (Hilary), grandchildren Jasmine, Robert, Omar, Sam, Tom, Ben, Katherine, Mathew, Jordan, and Ryan ; great grandchildren Triniti, Elijah, Amira, Mia, Luca, Noah and Ezra.
We will miss our strong, kind, loving, and generous matriarch, known for her intellect, sense of humour, soft spot for dogs, great capacity to listen, and unforgettable words of wisdom.
The family plans a private graveside service in Perth (ON) close to her beloved Otty Lake.
We ask that Joyce’s friends and acquaintances take a quiet moment to reflect on their fond memories of her. Joyce supported many charities but one that she particularly liked is the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence.
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
