Entrusted to the care of Evergreen Residence, Roxboro, QC, our mother thrived in a loving, caring, warm and nurturing environment. Sattie and her capable staff always treated our mother with much love and dignity in her final years. We thank them from the bottom of our heart for all that they did for our mother and our family.
In her final days, attended compassionately by her family and the diligent staff of 3 North at the Lakeshore General Hospital Mabel Lantaff-Greenlaw passed peacefully on March 3, 2017.
Born and raised in Rosemount, Mom married our father, a C.P.R. man, in 1949. This union began a transient lifestyle that took the couple and their growing family to Ottawa, London, Chapleau, Toronto, and then back to Montreal by 1966 where the family settled in Beaconsfield.
Mabel, our sweet mother, will be sorely missed by daughters Valerie Greenlaw-Harris and Lisa Greenlaw-Knopp; sons David Greenlaw and Tom Greenlaw; sons-in-law Ian Harris and Gary Knopp; daughters-in-law Barbara Greenlaw and Wendy Greenlaw; grandsons William and Julian Harris, Braden and Devin Greenlaw; Christopher and Stuart Greenlaw; and, Stuart’s spouse Emily Gomez-Greenlaw, great-grandchildren Jonathan, Samuel and Matthew Greenlaw and, Henrik and Harvey Greenlaw.
Mabel is predeceased by her husband Colin Basil (Bob) Greenlaw; parents Agnes Nancy Hitchcock-Lantaff and Walter Lantaff; brothers Tommy, Walter, Robert, Philip and Ross Lantaff; and, sisters Joan Lantaff-Kennedy and Dorothy Lantaff-Smith.
Our mother was a true friend to any and all who needed her. She was a beacon of light to those who had the eyes to see. Mabel loved and was deeply loved. Without reservation, she affectionately nursed our father for many years at home as he battled Parkinson’s, Alzheimer's, and many other afflictions until he passed in 1999. Mom set the bar high. This strong woman’s actions and example will continue to guide us for all of our days. To her last moments, Mom lived with courage, strength and dignity. As much as she did on her own the helping hands of three special friends Brenda, Carol and Jacques were ever present.
Mom never hid her light under a bushel. She volunteered extensively wherever we lived and most notably with the choir, senior groups, Sunday School and many fundraising activities at the Beaconsfield United Church. In addition, she gave of her time at the Allancroft Public School Library, Meals-on-Wheels as well as the Gary Taylor Centre. Mom always enriched her volunteerism with diligence, humour, compassion and empathy. She remained informed of the world around her and passed on lessons-learned to her loved ones.
Mom, we thank you, we love you and miss you with all our heart. May you now journey with those who went before and may those journeys be always blessed with fair winds and following seas.
In lieu of a funeral service the family will conduct a Celebration of Life for family and invited guests, at a date and location yet to be determined.
