Mazi as we fondly call you, as appointed unto us mortals to depart this world at the instance of our creator, in this case, we thank God for the good life he gave you. You were an exemplary community organizer. Your love for anything Igbo and your willingness to serve the Igbo community especially in Montreal endeared you to me me. We had worked together successfully  on many igbo community events.  I remember when you were the defacto secretary for Otu Ndigbo. I remember when you won the challenge of making a speech completely in Igbo language without a single foreign language, how you will direct us in presenting and blessing of kola nuts.  You worked behind the scenes to prop up the Otu Ndigbo in Montreal. They will sorely miss you.

As I write this, I recall your simple, intonated 'Hello' whenever you picked up the phone. You never missed my calls. This is why when I called on the day before your passing and did not hear a 'Hello' or receive a callback, I was a bit concerned. I guess now your Hello will be for your Creator to hear and Him alone.  It is well. It will be hard to forget your promptness to share your bold opinions, your favourite Sunday Asian food order from the Marche, and your saying, 'cheap things are expensive'. They indeed are. Thank you for everything Uncle. We will miss you and hope that you rest well, in peace.

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our dear friend.  Peter has been a member of WIBCA for many years and during his tenure his focus has been the Education Committee. He advocated for our youth as he demonstrated that to achieve excellence one must be determined, committed, know you’re valued, and always do your best. Peter loved children and he showed that love in the way he spoke of his own children and grandchildren. He was present on Saturdays to assist WIBCA’s students and recruiting volunteer tutors. He gave selflessly of his time and resources including through photography, and through his desire to record the history of WIBCA. Peter was a man of high integrity and lived his values. He strived to ensure the WIBCA Scholarship Program well represented the organization and was of the highest standard. Peter loved life.  He liked to play his music and dance. He taught us what it means to love unconditionally. Our hearts are aching as we will miss his presence, but his love for his family, community, and education will remain with us forever. We will hold on to our precious memories, grieve our loss, but are grateful that we had him in our lives. 
Rest in God’s grace, dear Peter,  as you will remain in our hearts forever.

Mazi Peter Nwafor was a  great statesman and a very remarkable man. He was a man who does not sugarcoat anything. He says it as it is - black and white: irrespective of who gets hurt or offended. And he hated grammatical errors in all it’s ramifications , both written and spoken ones !😀 And he always ensures that everything goes well in an orderly manner. 
His passion with photography as a hobby during his retirement was a tremendous help to the Igbo community and a lot of people benefited from his benevolence in this aspect. 
Otu Ndi Igbo Québec will surely miss this great icon who has contributed immensely to it’s existence especially during major events  within the Igbo community. We will surely miss him. May you Rest In Peace Mazi.

Mazi Peter Nwafor will definitely be remembered by many people and various organizations for photography, knowledge and his ability to reach out and help people. He was a very sociable person, fun filled and in many ways big and small, changed our world and left it in a better place.

The news of his passing was heart wrenching. We pray that he is now in a better place where there is no more pain and suffering. We extend our deep condolences to all who mourn him and may his soul rest in perfect peace.

It is hard to summarize a life, especially one such as Uncle Peter's. He was wise, lively, and caring. He never missed an opportunity to dance and crack jokes. I honestly don't know how he found the energy to almost be everywhere, going from one event to the next. I will never forget how excited he was when I got my engineering degree, given that he was an engineer himself. He always encouraged me to strive to achieve more.

I am sad he is gone, but comforted that he is no longer in pain. I extend my most heartfelt condolences to his family. He will most certainly be missed.

My Dad was blessed to live a full life. I am blessed to have had two incredible parents to whom I give credit for who I am today.
It is hard to accept that my Dad is no longer with us. It breaks my heart to know that I am not going to receive another “hello Emeka, this is your Daddy” voicemail message. I miss my Dad so much but I am trying to find comfort that he is no longer in pain and that he is finally getting the peaceful rest that has eluded him for too long. He will live in my heart forever.

I am so very sad to say goodbye to you Mr Nwafor. The last time we spoke you were in considerable pain and trying to breathe through it. In that moment you were still Dad, reassuring us that you were fine and telling us not to be worried. I am glad you are no longer in pain but again, it makes me very sad that you are no longer with us.  Those days of morning train commutes, picture taking, teasing us with seriousness but with the slightest hint of a smile will forever be etched in my mind. Thank you for who you were to us. Please say hello to Lindani and Dad for us.

“Uncle P” as I fondly called you over the years, you fought a great fight with this infirmity, and you gave it your all. Unfortunately, death suddenly snatched you away from us. Everything still feels like a nightmare, the news of your demise got to us as I was sharing dinner with family members on that faithful day. It’s so heartbreaking that I never got the opportunity to hear your voice on the other end of the phone when I call out “uncle P” to wish you farewell. 
We have several great memories, especially the times you spent visiting with my family in Houston and the days we spent together on my visit to Montreal. You always gave your time, resources, and knowledge to everyone you encounter. You lived in the moment. Our conversations are always very captivating, and they revolved around virtually everything from socio-political and economic, to family issues. They were informative and always a learning moment. You will be greatly missed.
In life, we loved you, and in death we do the same. It was hard and it broke our hearts to see you called to the Lord. You left us with lasting fond memories that will be cherished forever. Although we cannot see, feel, or talk to you, I know you are always close by and the chain that was established here is not broken as we will link up again as God calls us one by one. 
Thanks to everyone for taking a moment to pray for the souls of the faithful departed. May God grant “Uncle P” and all the faithful departed, eternal life. Amen

Tribute To Mazi Peter Nwafor:

Mazi Peter Nwafor is certainly one of a kind. Among his many attributes: he’s good natured, an accomplished engineer, a family man who is culturally-minded, a devout Christian and an avid photographer who never misses an opportunity!

The first time I met Mazi Peter Nwafor was when he visited my family and I in Morgantown, West Virginia in the late 1980s. My wife was very excited to see her uncle. The memories of that visit are still vivid in my mind; a testament to his kind and genuine personality. 

The Amuvi, AFNA (to which he is a patron), and Arochukwu communities in the diaspora will miss him. May God grant him eternal life … as we all mourn him!


TRIBUTE TO MY UNCLE BROTHER PETER. 
Bro Peter it’s so sad to be writing this tribute as I am lost of words. 
Honestly, I never heard you were sick as I called to know how you’re doing, and also obtain permission to release your phone number.
Precisely 10days before your demise, your bosom friend’s wife, Lady Evelyn Chikwendu who was my former boss, and the bursar of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, lost his husband here in USA. 
She knows am bro Peter’s niece and demanded his current phone number, so she would tell him of his friend’s demise and also to write a tribute. I quickly told her I needed his permission to do so. I called late brother Peter, he sounded so low and did not come up his usual jokes and loud smiles. I quickly asked why he was sounding that low. There and then he broke the news of his ailment. I immediately broke down in uncontrollable tears. He encouraged and told me the situations of things regarding his health. Told me to tell my brother Tony to call him immediately for some discussions which I did. I never knew his demise was so close. On Sunday morning I wanted to call to know how he was, only to hear from my son that he passed on the day before. It was really a rude shock to me but I thank God in all things.
I have been praying for him and ask that the Lord would grant him peace in his bosom Amen.
What a loss to his friends, entire family, Amuvi and Arochukwu in general. 
We cannot question the Almighty God for He gives and takes at will.

Oh Daddy!!! Where do I even begin?  How can I ever summarize 49 Years, 6 Months, and 18 days of life that I had with you?! You've had such an impact on who I am today! You are my biggest champion. You've truly allowed me to come into my own, and evolve, without judgement. You always cried in those moments where you shared the deep love you have for me - oh, how I long for one of those moments now. I wish I hadn't been so quick to "brush" the moment away, as I did not want you to cry. What I'm finding hard right now, is how to move on from the daily calls we had. I've wanted to call you so many times, and then realize I can't and immediately burst into tears. At least I have a ton of voice messages from you that I can replay. Especially the one's you ended with "Love you! Bye for now.". I miss you so much!! Well more than any tribute can ever express! As I look forward, I will replace our daily calls with open and free conversation. Albeit, it will sound one sided, I will learn and encourage myself to be still and listen for your responses. There will come a day where I know that I will feel your ever present loving energy within me and around me, supporting me every step of the way. It will make me feel good, and it will feel good to feel good! You loved me without conditions. I love you beyond love. I miss you terribly!! Always, your daughter, Nkechi! ❤️

Pops is what I called him. Our last conversation was within a week of his passing, and even in pain, he wanted to know how my business was doing. Never letting on to how much pain he was in. He showed me love from the first moment Nkechi introduced me to him. He forged a good relationship with my Mom, and they would often talk. He has a great laugh which he shares with everyone in the Robinson family. He even helped us create memories of a family trip we took to Montreal, with pictures he insisted on taking.  Along with everyone in my family, from Toronto and Jamaica, love and sadness are shared. We are truly sorry that such a wonderful person is gone. To my wife, Nkechi, I am here for you and to help you with every step forward without your "Daddy" (as you fondly call him). Love Easton and The Robinson Family.

It was a very sad day when I learnt of the passing of Emeka and Nkechi's dad or Uncle Peter as we referred to him. I was privileged to get to know him and the family  through my wife. I remember him taking pictures during my wife's graduation  and various  family events. His presence was always known by his unique laughter.  I extend my deep condolence to the family  as we celebrate his life. He is in a better place and resting  with the angels. Rest on Uncle Peter.

We, the Akan Uwe family of Oron received with great sadness the news of the passing of our friend, your father, Mazi Peter Ajero Nwafor. We mourn with you his passing. It is the way of all flesh and in the fullness of time all of us will follow.

We are consoled in that he had a good life, full of achivements like successfully raising children like Emeka and Nkechi. We found in Mazi Peter Ajero Nwafor a good and reliable friend, whose advice was extremely helpful. His devotion as a true friend, even in the latter days when his health was failing, showed as he frequently called to find out how we were doing.

TRIBUTE TO MY DEAR COUSIN, LATE PETER AJAERO NWAFOR.
My sister in the Nethelands broke the sad news of the death of brother Peter through phone call. I was devastated. 
We, the family in Nigeria will miss him dearly for what he represented to everyone: Lively, happy, laughing, joking, hugging and picture snapping big brother. Indeed, everyone has fun memories of him that would be difficult to forget. 
It hurts me that I didn’t visit him while he was ill, and it hurts even more that I will not be attending his burial ceremonies. 
Bro. Peter lived a fulfilled life, passing through life like a shooting star. 
From his hospital bed he proposed floating a foundation, with some family members, to help bright children from our extended family to acquire university education. Thoughtful, kind and gracious he was. 
Before COVID-19 and illness slowed him down he traveled frequently to the US, Europe, Africa and others, visiting places, family and friends. For every city, town or village he visited, he made sure he visited every member of our family there. He was very down to earth and connected with family and friends no matter where you lived. 
For every family affair, celebration, mourning or others, he contributed generously, even when his health was failing. 
Brother Peter was the most known photographer in Amuvi, as his lenses captured every face, every event and every story wherever he visited. 
Brother was very frank and fearless. He would always say it the way it was without mincing words. 
He was a faithful catholic that stuck to his faith till the end. 
Brother rose from humble beginning to a position of affluence and dignity by dint of hard work. However, as every human being does, he may have had his shortcomings. 
I pray that God of mercy forgive his sins and accept his soul into His paradise. 
May the soul of Peter Ajaero Nwafor and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace.

Mazi Peter Nwafor will be remembered for many things, among which is the passion with which he gave of himself, his time, his knowledge and wisdom and his love of photography to others. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and would go out of his way to make people feel welcome, especially out-of-town visitors, taking time to show them around and welcoming them to his home. Mazi was a people person who connected very easily with people and nurtured relationships preciously. No doubt, he made a lasting impact in the lives of many. He will be greatly missed. I thank God for the many years of  friendship Mazi extended to me and to my family.

Oh!!  Mr. Nwafor I was saddened by your sudden passing.  It was just a couple of weeks ago that I had called to check on you after hearing of your fall.  Instead you turned the conversation to console me for what I was going through.  That is you, always looking out for others.  You said “Philo take it easy.  It will be ok.”  You had promised to call back not knowing it will be  our last conversation.  They say life is too short.  Yes... it is.  The good and the bad, I will remember all the wonderful times you spent at my home with me and my family taking pictures, eating your favourite dish(fish) and ending the evening with a dance.  I will miss your energy on the dance floor and your boisterous laughter.  My condolences to the Nwafor family.

The death Br. Peter came to the family as a huge shock despite the fact that we all know he was battling with prostrate cancer. Br. Peter means a lot to our family. His demise has left a very big gap in the family. We mourn him with deep sadness and sorrow in our hearts. We shall endeavour to uphold all the good legacies he left for us. Oh Br. Peter it's difficult for us to believe that you are no more with us. In our hearts you will always be.

Dear brother Peter, your death is a big blow to.us all. Our family is yet to come to terms with the brutal fact that you're dead; that you're no more. You have thrown hundreds of us into untold agony, tears, pains and gloom. You have created a vacuum that will take our family years to fill.

One of the kindest, and most caring individuals I’ve ever met, my Papa was one of my biggest supporters in everything that I do. I cannot begin to describe the empty void left by his departure for I know that I will not have the chance to joke with him about emojis, have a dance party nor have him explain photos from his past. I am fortunate to be able to see his kind soul and eyes in my father and my aunt, see the messages he’s passed along through my mother, and see his natural talent for photography and wit in my sister. He once said to me, “the pain may not be little, but it will be over soon. And you’ll be okay.” I know this can apply to him and that he is no longer in pain and is smiling down and watching over all of us. Thank you for your condolences and kind words during these times.

Uncle, I got to hear of your passing on the 27th of March which was the day of my mother in law’s celebration of life. Hmm, since that day and when the news was broken in the family group, I couldn’t make any statement. However, I choose to remember your visits to us in Owerri then when daddy was alive and even after he passed, you still visited. 

Even when we were in the UK and our return to Nigeria, we kept in touch. You always couldn’t understand why we spoke “pidgin” English and I kept telling you, “you fall my hand” lol 😂 When I explained the meaning to you, it became our normal banter with you always telling me, “you fall my hand for gutter” even as the pidgin sounded so funny coming from you. 

When my sister Nene informed me that you were sick with cancer and I called, your voice sounded so strong and we still had our normal “you fall mu hand gist”. Uncle as sad as your death is, I choose to remember the good times we saw and spoke in Owerri, Enugu, Aro and over the phone.

Peter Nwafor came into my life in 1994 the year I started dating his son and became my father in law in 1996.  His sense of humour, his quick dance steps and his fashion sense became a mainstay in my life.   He had been introduced to me as "this is my dad" so I never knew how to officially address him,  that is until his beloved grandchildren were born and he forever more was known as Papa.
On behalf of the Arkorful family, we share in the sorrow of his passing and in the joy of a life lived as a chid of God. 

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him.  May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.  Amen

Oh Bro Peter (that is how my siblings and I called you),  the news of your demise came to me unexpectedly.  As I saw your picture on our family Whatsapp group, my thought was that it was your birthday but alas, it was announcing your passing!  You were such a great Uncle to us.  I remember all the times you came to Owerri to stay with us during your trips to Nigeria.  We always looked forward to that one "oyibo" gift you would gift each and every one of us.  I cannot easily forget that bathing soap that its fragrance lingered hours after taking a bath.  Then the gifts came in those lovely branded shopping bags that even my friends in school looked forward to.

I remember your loud laughter when you read something written on one of my polo shirts.  It had on it,  "Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go to Toronto".  You found it very hilarious and always jokingly asked me which girl I'd rather be.  I still smile when I remember those moments.  

You were such a sophisticated, yet humble Uncle who never missed taking pictures of everyone.  You sure captured the great moments in the family.  We were happy too that my dad would also appear in family pictures as he had a passion for photography and was always behind the camera.

I'm happy I spoke with you before your demise.  Your voice was strong and I still remember your signature loud laughter.  Rest in peace Uncle.  You are sorely missed.  I pray God grants Emeka and Nkechi and indeed all Nwafor Uwah family the fortitude to bear this huge loss. Amen

Mazi Peter Nwafor was respected elder in our community, who was a very active and dedicated member of the Otu Ndi Igbo Quebec Association. Since my involvement with Otu Ndi Igbo, Mazi Nwafor has been present for all meetings and events and always offered to volunteer his time. He was helpful when I was secretary of the association, and was a great mentor based on his experience and years of involvement with the association. I became close to Mazi over the years, and he became acquainted with both my parents and in-laws when they visited Montreal. Mazi Nwafor kept himself busy with various interests including his hobby as a photographer, but his mobility was limited after he was diagnosed with cancer. His passing on has created a vacuum, which will be difficult to fill.  The Igbo and Nigerian community here will miss him.  I am sending my prayers and heartfelt condolences to his immediate and extended family. May the soul of Mazi Peter Nwafor rest in peace. Adieu Mazi. 

Bro Peter was a colossal figure in the Nwafor Uwah family. He filled the room once he entered and he was a jolly good fellow. Bro Peter as we fondly called him was very jovial and loved a good laugh. I remember as a kid we all used to look forward to Uncle Peter visiting Nigeria from Canada. Whenever he visited Nigeria, he made it a point to come to Owerri where we lived at that time. This was from the 80s and he maintained that tradition for as long as I can remember. Even though he lived in Canada, Bro Peter kept in touch with everybody. I still remember his Nikon camera with which he took excellent portrait pictures of practically everyone. 

Bro Peter was our big uncle. Interacting with him as kids and later as adults, he treated us with the same love and respect that we came to know him. And throughout all these years, he aged gracefully. Bro Peter kept in touch with my mom, myself and every single one of my siblings and continued to be a constant presence in our lives, even after my died passed. He was very kind to our family. Every time we spoke, he remembered the names of my kids. 

Bro Peter loved family so much and always wanted to make sure wherever you are, you had family around you. I remember when I moved to Houston in 2012, he connected me to the Amuvi families in Houston and encouraged me to seek out and socialize with our people in Houston. 

The last time I spoke with Bro Peter was sometime late last year. Even though he was undergoing tough treatment, he sounded very positive and his voice was ever so strong. He was more interested in my well being and other people’s well-being and he didn’t allow his illness get in the way of cracking jokes and being very cheerful.

It was a shock to hear of Uncle’s demise and up until now, I still can’t believe he is gone. Emeka and Nkechi, please take heart.

Adieus Bro Peter. Even though you are gone, you will remain ever present in our lives and your memory will live with us forever. Rest In Peace. 

My Papa has one of the brightest energies of anyone I’ve ever met. Even while he was sick, he would always greet my sister and I with a big hug and a 5-minute mandatory dance break. 

He taught me how to see the world through a lens and see the beauty in every moment. I continue to see things that remind me of him everyday. I hear him in my aunt’s laugh and see him in my dad’s smile. 

I love my grandfather very much and I miss him more than words can describe. Thank you all for your kind words about my Papa - it brings me great pleasure to know that he had a positive impact on the lives of many in addition to my own. 

Thanking God for the life well lived. Sincerely pray for god’s comfort to rest on all the family members at this time.  

Mazi, my first contact with you was in a committee set up by Otu Ndị Igbo Québec, since then, there has never been a time I met you or talked to you on phone that you were not talking about how to make Otu Ndị Igbo better, even when I visited you at the hospital, you were talking about moving Otu Ndị Igbo forward and encouraging capable hands to come on board. Mazi as you are fondly called among Ndị Igbo and Nigerians in Canada, you volunteered your time, your energy and wisdom to move Otu Ndị Igbo Québec forward, I will miss you Mazi, I will miss the phone calls, I will miss listening to you and I will miss your believe and trust in me. Rest in peace Mazi.

Bro Peter, as my siblings and I fondly called him, was a very caring uncle to us. I have fond memories of uncle as a kid when he and his entire family visited my family in Owerri-Nigeria. That was the first time I put a face to my uncle in Canada! 
Fast forward to my Canadian journey. I remember the very day I informed him of the status of my permanent residence application, Uncle followed up with me from there till the minute the visa was approved. He was visibly excited when everything went through successfully. He never ceased to show his concern and care for me and the children while we adjusted to our new life here. The children still remember the conversation you had with them concerning their academics and choice of future careers. Now you are gone and we miss you sorely!
Uncle, you showed a lot of strength and positivity even in sickness. Yes, you told us about the illness, but your laughter, the jokes, the stories did not let us estimate the extent of pain and discomfort you were dealing with. God has healed you as the pains are now gone forever. I pray God heals the hearts of your children, family and friends. We are consoled by the beautiful memories of your warm personality. May God grant you eternal rest as you rest in HIS bosom. Goodnight Bro Peter!



With sorrowful hearts, my family and I mourn the demise of brother Peter Ajero Nwafor on 26th March, 2022.
Peter was a good and dear brother of my late husband Pius Nwokoro Nwafor. Peter was also a good, caring and true brother-in-law to me and my children.
We miss him very dearly and pray the Almighty God to grant peace and solace to his soul, console the immediate family and dry our tears, in Jesus Name. Amen.

Your death came to us quite abruptly because the last few times I spoke to you, you sounded hail and hearty. With our newborn baby, you advised us not to let people throw the baby up or jiggle her – as that is not healthy for the baby. I have been conscious of it ever since. 
You were famously known among us your nephews and nieces as “Uncle P” and your presence was akin to entertainment and laughter. You had a knack of capturing everyone’s faces with your “well-guarded camera”. I could recall the hospitality we enjoyed visiting you twice in Canada and the dance challenge between you and I during your 80th birthday. It was quite a cherishing moment. 
A wiseman once said, “everything that has a beginning, must have an end.” You lived a fulfilled life, and I can assure you that this is not your end, as your legacy of a united front among family members will continue with the rest of us your family. 
May the good Lord grant you eternal rest! Adieu Uncle!! Rest in peace Uncle!!!


I remember earliest memories from your visits in our flat in Greenwich, London in about 1975/76 and over the years back in Nigeria. You were an inspiring uncle who was far but near, continuously coming back to give back and share our journeys. An enduring feature is your genuine interest in the welfare of others, almost curiosity and your generosity to all, and example of values we hold dear, of communal duty and solidarity. I remember your steady counsel over the years.
 
And in recent times, your bravery in face of health challenges, as you still remember us amidst pain you shielded us from.
 
Forged in the furnaces at home, eagle who flew across the sea, and triumphed in faraway lands, and who flew back to break bread with his brethren, may you continue to fly in the realm beyond.

Bro Peter (as I grew up to know him) is my uncle that lived somewhere I never got to visit in Canada but I usually saw him an average of once a year when he paid his annual pilgrimage to his root land...Nigeria.

I was surprised and sad to hear he was battling with cancer from relatives living in the USA. On behalf of my late dad and mum...Michael and Rebecca who maintained a close relationship with him, I feel obliged to express my condolences on behalf of them and their surviving children (Chinyere and Myself) and wish Bro Peter peace and extend same to his surviving children Emeka and Nkechi.

A TRIBUTE TO MY BELOVED UNCLE PETER AJERO NWAFOR

It is a difficult task for me to write a tribute to my beloved uncle but I'm consoled that  he is at a better place where there is no pain and sleepless nights.No one can question God,he took him away so he will enjoy eternal glory devoid of those pains and the frequent hospital visits.
Uncle was a good man with a golden heart,he loved his family so passionately thereby always wanting to visit members of his family home and abroad,reaching out to them with love and kindness at every little opportunity that came his way until these past few years he could not travel because of his illness but he still reached out to almost everyone on phone,caring and assisting as much as he could.
I am happy and grateful to God to have blessed me with uncle P, he was my friend indeed & my confidant..Thank you for your love and care.When I had my wrist injury in Nov 2019,uncle was my online doctor,he called me almost every day to check on me and advised me on wrist exercises to do to help me heal fast, he sent me sling for my POP support from Canada.

Growing up I heard my dad say nice things about uncle P while they lived in Gashua,I saw lovely pictures of them as young men two jolly good fellows so he was, with his other brothers and relatives, he loved them all.My mother would always ask 'Kedu maka Peter' .She was so fond of him.it was a radiating love that was infectious. Uncle I would always remember and cherish all the priceless memories that we shared.i will surely miss you my dearest uncle.May God almighty grant you eternal rest and may perpetual light shine upon you.

My heart is heavy at the realisation that my immediate younger brother Peter, whom I fondly call “P’ is no more!  Mr P departed this world on 26 March 2022 at the ripe age of 87 years. 

Brother P started his primary education at St Bridget Primary School, Ogui, Enugu. He continued his secondary school at St. Patrick’s College, Asaba. His tertiary education was at McGill University, Montreal, Canada where he qualified as an engineer. He worked in many prestigious organisations in Canada. 

Our brother, Peter is fondly remembered by his siblings, Mazi Clement O. Nwafor, Sir Joseph O. Nwafor, Mazi Stephen O. Nwafor, Mazi Francis O. Nwafor, Mazi Tochukwu Nwafor and Mazi Chima Nwafor.  He is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and relations, who are not mentioned by name here. 

Mr P was a beloved brother to me and my family.

He was very kind and generous to us. His visits from his base in Canada were always memorable and joyful and we will forever appreciate his love for us. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Brother “P” in the bosom of the Lord till we meet to part no more.


Uncle Peter Nwafor was a very dear uncle to us, because the very first year we got married in year 2000, Uncle came to visit us in Bonny Island, Nigeria. We spent precious time with him and went to some recreational centres around the Island. Afterward, it became a biannual visit. He visits and spends some days with us, and we all then travel to our hometown, Arochukwu for Christmas celebrations. Surely, on those visits, Uncle will take very beautiful photos of us and our family.  When he is back to Canada, regular phone calls with him became a routine in the house, as he will call and crack some jaw-breaking jokes and we will all laugh loud.
In 2019, we visited him in Montreal, and it was such a trill as we were excited over the visit. Uncle Peter took us around some interesting places like the Golf courses knowing that we are golfers, but of the most thrilling place he took us was to the St Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal Basilica. He also gave us the book on the miracle of the establishment of the basilica. Reading the book made remarkable impact on our faith and from then, St. Joseph became the patron saint of our family.
Uncle Peter loved our family dearly, one day in his home in Montreal, Uncle displayed seven types of crucifixes on a table and asked us to pick one, and we selected the one which the artwork was more detailed. Immediately, we came back to Nigeria, we kept the crucifix in a special place in our sitting room. One thing is clear, Uncle kept showing us the face of Christ which we will hold on so dearly to our hearts.
We will miss Uncle Peter so much and pray that God grant eternal rest onto his soul.

A TRIBUTE TO MY BROTHER, MAZI PETER AJERO NWAFOR UWAH

Losing a dear bother is one of the most difficult things someone can experience and can be absolutely devastating. That is how I, my wife and children felt when the news of the passing away of my Br. Peter reached us.

Br. Peter I spoke with you on phone about 8:20 PM on Sunday, March 20, 2022. During our conversation you told me that you were finding it difficult to walk. Our conversation was interrupted by another call for you and you told me you would call me back. The call back never came up to now. In the morning of Sunday, March 27, 2022 my senior brother Joe (your immediate junior brother) called to inform me and my wife that you passed away on Saturday, March 26. The news hit me and my wife like a thunderbolt. Sadness and sorrow filled our hearts. Brother Peter we are going to miss you very dearly. You are a brother who loves to be among your kiths and kins and that’s why you made it a duty to visit them once every 2 or 3 years in Nigeria all the way from Canada at a great cost. It was always fun to have you around.

We still can’t believe you are really gone. Day by day we shall continue to remember you. As human beings we are not perfect and therefore we pray God to forgive you all your sins and admit you into his kingdom.

To my nephew Emeka and niece Nkechi be strong and know that the Nwafor Uwah family and by extension the Uwah family stand with you at this period of grieving for your dad.

To my brother Peter I wish you sweet sleep. We promise to cherish our memories of you. You shall live in our minds and all that we do.
May your soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. May perpetual light of God continue to shine on your soul.

It is with a heavy heart that the otu ndi Igbo quebec pay tribute to a great senior patron of our association Mazi Peter Nwafor who passed away on March 26th 2022. Mazi Peter Nwafor was a pioneer member of ONIQ. He was committed to the association for his love for igbo unity in quebec and for the preservation of the igbo culture for our children and grandchildren. 

He was a very open minded man who held high value for people of good moral standard. The legacy he created in ONIQ  will never be forgotten by all the members because he was that one elder who will always tell you the truth. Although he is no more here with us today but the memories we shared with him remains in our hearts. He was a good listener, a man of peace and a good concept creator that makes him a lovable and approachable person.

Mazi, as we all profoundly call him is no more with us but we know that he is at peace in a place where people with good souls rest in peace. Otu ndi igbo quebec will always remember him and keep his good legacy alive. We all loved him and we will miss him so dearly.

My earliest memory of Uncle Peter as a child was hearing stories about “one of my uncles that live in Canada.” His passion for photography prompts everyone to get their best outfit ready because when Uncle arrives, everyone gets a memorable and professional picture taken. As a family man, Uncle shows his love to his extended family. He takes it upon himself to visit family members; wherever you live, he finds a way to visit you. He was not only an uncle, but a father to me and my family. He actually gave me away to my husband during my church wedding and was also there to support me when I had my first child (Chioma).

Uncle, you lived life to the fullest and fought hard and bravely through your sickness. I will miss hearing your voice each time I call to check on you. Uncle Peter, I am actually relieved that the good Lord took you at the right time. No more pains, sleepless nights and suffering! We will miss you but God loves you more. May your gentle soul rest in peace and perpetual light shine on you.
