Norma is survived by her children, Joanne (Barry) on Vancouver Island, Brian (Judith) in Pickering, Ian (Gwen) in Pittsburgh and Jill (Terri) in Montreal. Norma's extended family includes her cherished granddaughter, Emilie (John), and treasured great-grandson Sébastian in Pickering, siblings, Michael (Paula) in Bermuda, Catherine in Montreal and cousin and goddaughter, Mary, also in Montreal.
Born in 1926, Norma's life was profoundly affected by the loss of her beloved Mother when Norma was 4 years old. Wanting a family of her own, Mom saw her greatest achievement as raising 4 strong and independent children, stretching every penny of her salary to ensure that there was a roof over our heads and food on the table. Norma shared deep connections with a host of wonderful friends including Kay, Lee, Lou, Inez and Barbara. We are comforted that Mom will be embraced by all those who went before her.
Although Covid-19 was not the primary cause of Norma's passing, the pandemic had a major impact on our abilities to connect with Norma in person. Our extended family will be forever indebted to Jill and her partner Terri for their dedication to Mom, especially in this last year. As well, we thank the staff at Residence Vivalis for their care of, and affection for, Norma. Mom's final hours were made peaceful through the outstanding efforts of caregivers at the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence in Kirkland, Quebec.
Arrangements entrusted to Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home in Pointe Claire. Cremation has taken place. On-line messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family through the funeral home's website. When it is safe to do so, Norma's family will gather together for a private family service and Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Parkinson Canada (www.parkinson.ca), the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca) or the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence (www.residencesoinspalliatifs.com)
The family requests that you wear a mask, social distance and register to receive the Covid vaccine so that, in the future, without the need for PPE, the elderly may once again hold the hands of those they love.
