BELL, Valerie Coombes, née Scarterfield. Passed away February 10, 2016, 97 years of age, at Ste. Anne’s Hospital in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Québec. Valerie was predeceased by John Gladden Bell, her loving husband of more than 59 years. She will be dearly missed by her sons, Jamie (Lorna) and Gary (Sophie); her grandchildren, Andrew and Lisa, Cathy and Rachael, Mathilde and Philippe; and her great-grandchildren, Kieran, Cassidy, and Liliana. Born in Toronto, August 5, 1918, Valerie, the daughter of Frank and Ellen Scarterfield, was predeceased by her brothers Stanley and Roland and her sister Helen. Valerie was a World War II veteran, serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a wireless instructor at No. 1 Wireless School in Montreal. She was a woman of infectious enthusiasm and great determination, a person of character, a source of wit and wisdom. The world has lost a mischievous smile, a great sense of humour, and a caring heart. The family would like to express gratitude for the exceptional care and profound courtesy given by the Remembrance Wing staff at St. Anne’s Veterans' Hospital.
