Athanasios "Tommy" Katsenos

Athanasios “Tommy “ Katsenos 85, the OG of Olympia Flame Diner, passed away unexpectedly at home on December 23, 2024. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a quintessential restaurateur. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Georgina, his children Patty (Jeff) and George, grandsons, Alex, Greg, Evan and granddaughter Georgina, along with numerous nieces & nephews in Greece.

Tommy was born on December 17, 1939 in Patras, Greece. When he was 4 his father (George) died and Tommy was raised by his mother (Ourania), sister (Theoni) & brother (George). Sadly they all predeceased him.

As a young man, seeking a better life, he left bleak post WWII Greece for Germany where he met & married his wife. Soon after they wanted to explore new lands & opportunities They emigrated to Toronto, Canada where their family grew with Patty in 1968 and George in 1969. They spent 20 beautiful years in the Great White North but longed for warmer weather and their final pinnacle to live the American Dream. Over 40 years, they resided in Fort Lauderdale, Lighthouse Point and Deerfield Beach.

Tommy a proud Greek, enjoyed being surrounded by his family, friends & customers and loved the call of the casino. He lived life to the fullest and on his own terms, as every great entrepreneur does…successful due his work ethic & determination and the legacy he built for his children & grandchildren.

He lived by three mottos: Fake it until you make it, You are born with only your word so honor it, Pay your staff first, vendors next and if you’re lucky there might be something left for you.

A visitation will be held at Kraeer Funeral Home @ Forest Lawn Funeral Home, located at 200 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33064, on January 2, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The funeral service is scheduled for January 3, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 820 NE 14th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304.

Following the funeral service, a committal service will take place at Kraeer Funeral Home & Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 200 W Copans Rd, Pompano Beach, FL 33064, beginning at 11:30 am.

A reception will be held on January 3, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Kraeer Funeral Home @ Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 200 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33064.
