February 23, 1935 - July 4, 2015
Our beloved father, passed away peacefully, July 4th, 2015, having bravely fought to overcome the debilitating effects of a severe medical malady suffered two years ago. He is survived by his three children; David, Paul, Jennifer, five grandchildren, and his brother Barry. Our Dad was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Basil and Mildred Deuschle. The family relocated to Bridgeport, Connecticut, shortly thereafter where he lived, as he told us, a very happy childhood surrounded by his loving Irish family; his beloved grandfather, Patrick Gabbett, and grandmother, Mary Coyne Gabbett, both from Ireland. Following in his beloved brother Cholly Deuschle’s footsteps, he joined the Marine Corps. at the age of 17, rising to the rank of Sergeant in a very short time. It was while he was in the Marines that he decided to become a lawyer. He enrolled in the University of Miami with the G.I. Bill and completed his law degree at Boston University, receiving his J.D. in October of 1960. He came to Florida with his new bride, our beloved mother, Mary Ehrsam Deuschle, who he married in August of 1959, and started a solo practice in Fort Lauderdale that later became Spear Deuschle & Curran, P.A.. He was a voracious reader of philosophy, Nietzsche, Immanuel Kant, Kierkegaard. He lived his life by a very strict personal code. He went to work every day for 53 years and loved the law. He took great pride in being an attorney and it showed. An avid reader, sport fisherman, and writer of poems. He loved to cook, listen to music from the forties and Broadway plays.
His legacy resides in his children, David, Paul and Jennifer, and continues in the lives of his “five female grandchildren”, Maggie, Molly, Ashley, Elizabeth and Morgan, and in his impeccable record as an attorney. It is apropos that our father passed away on Independence Day, born in Philadelphia and having honorably served his country in the Korean War. But most of all, his favorite Aunt - Kath (Katherine Kinney Shea) was born on July 4, 1900. We know Dad is being greeted in heaven by his beloved parents, his brother Cholly, whom he has missed terribly over the past 25 years, and our Mom and brother, Kevin. Our hearts are truly broken. There will never be another like him. He lived his life to the fullest and gave us a life for which we are eternally grateful. He died on his terms. He was, is, a man of true grit. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, July 9th, 2015 at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 N. Federal Hwy, Pompano Bch, Florida with a service at 6:00 pm.
