Born in 1931, Corinne was one of seven children born to Bernard J. and Geraldine McCarthy Dolan of Bethel, Connecticut. The Dolans spent many carefree summers at their beach house at Bell Island in Norwalk, CT. There they made friends with wonderful families from the tri-State region, continuing some of the friendships forever. Common summer adventures were swimming, sailing, and going for ice cream. Corinne and her lifelong friend Ann Therese sat in the rumble seat of Jimmy Dolan's convertible car for the trip to the ice cream parlor.
Corinne's high school days started at Bethel High School, and then she went to boarding school in New York, graduating from School of the Holy Child in Suffern, NY. When she was back home in Bethel, CT, Corinne worked in the office of her family's business, the Bernard J. Dolan Company, and she also helped her sister Diana in writing stories for the local newspaper. Local fun was all that was needed, with the exception of frequent trips to New York with her brother Bernard for Yankees baseball games, and trips to Broadway to see plays with her mother Gigi. Corinne loved watching ice skating performances, and when she and Joe Carroll were dating, they went to see shows in Hartford.
Hartford was also where Corinne became a nurse, being educated and trained at St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She became a Registered Nurse, as had her dear cousin Margaret Smith Ducibella, with whom she proudly shared her birthday. As a student, she stayed with cousins in West Hartford. The Sullivans were fantastic and the real deal. They had an ice cream habit too. Spare change was carefully placed in a certain spot on a side table and when it totaled the exact amount needed, they would head off to the ice cream parlor.
Corinne and Joseph Carroll were married May 4, 1957, and had their first three children before packing up the red station wagon and moving to Florida in 1964, just in time for Hurricane Cleo. Their fourth child arrived and they enjoyed their new hometown of Lighthouse Point, Florida, and the many families who were their neighbors, attending school, church, and sports events together, becoming lifelong friends with the McGinn family and many others. A new yellow station wagon, nicknamed "The Yellowbird", equipped Corinne to handle carpooling. Her key chain said "Mom's Taxi". Corinne found joy in everyone staying close to home when it came to swimming, boating, water skiing, and having a blast with her siblings' families, visiting from up North.
Corinne was involved in The Children's Home Society, Hospice, Food for the Poor, and the Council of Catholic Women. She also enjoyed tennis, and the garden club, Bloomin' Bunch. She and Joe were founding members of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Lighthouse Point, The Seabird Yacht Club, and the Wellness Center at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale. Just as they became empty-nesters, Corinne and Joe sold their house and tried condo living. It was a hit, and they lived the beach life for more than thirty years in Hillsboro Beach and Pompano Beach.
Having outlived her husband and siblings, Corinne was sustained by her faith in Jesus, as she always had been, and relied upon his Blessed Mother Mary, as she always had done. At the end of her life, with her daughter Cori helping her and her legacy growing with grandchildren and great grandchildren, Corinne's final celebration was her husband's funeral and family reception, when all came from across the United States to surround her with their love and compassion.
She is survived by her children, Corinne Carroll, Joseph Carroll (Theresa), and Jennifer Doerr (Stephen), grandchildren Jennifer, Joseph, Joshua, Jeremiah, Catherine, Justin, Patrick, and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Charles Carroll, her son Timothy Carroll, and her brothers and sisters, Ellen Natalie Dolan, Bernard J. Dolan, Jr., Diana D. Shaffer, Geraldine Dolan, James P. Dolan, and John D. Dolan.
Corinne followed through with the things she valued her whole life: the Rosary, novenas, family, friends, and ice cream (vanilla). It was all connected. She wanted her loved ones to be well and happy, and she prayed for them and advised prayer. She was truly happy for everyone's good times and encouraged people in their efforts, their ups and downs. No doubt, that love will never end.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Pompano Beach, FL at 10:00 am, October 8, 2019. A reception will follow at noon at Forest Lawn in Pompano Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by donations made to the charity of one's choice in remembrance of her.
