

Don was born in Harrisburg, AR, on January 13, 1913, the first son of Arvel Bryan "A.B." Caplinger and Pearl Stone Caplinger. He graduated from Cumberland Law School, Nashville, TN, was admitted to the Arkansas Bar Association in 1933, and practiced law in the Harrisburg area for many years. In addition, Don served as county welfare director and deputy county clerk form 1935 to 1941 and later as deputy prosecuting attorney. In 1951, he was elected to the Arkansas Legislature where he served one term. During that period, Don purchased land near Harrisburg, cleared several acres, and farmed there for some 20 years. He retired to Florida in 1977.
Don was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, AR.
Don was preceded in death by this parents, A.B. and Pearl; two brothers, Harold Bell Caplinger and Gene Arvel Caplinger; and by his first wife Ruby Morris Caplinger. He is survived by his wife, Mabel Cameron Caplinger, Pompano Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Mary Caplinger, Marked Tree, AR; nephews, Dr. Brian Caplinger, Jonesboro, AR, and Gene McCulley, Springdale, AR; niece, Dr. Linda Caplinger Hutchison, Memphis, TN; six great-nieces and nephews; and 3 great, great-nieces and nephews. On Mabel's side, he is survived by sister-in-law, Marian Claffey, Pompano Beach, FL; step-children, Dr. Raymond Cameron and Don Cameron, Ester, AK, and Sharon Crooker, Dover, DE; six step-grand children; and a very special care-giver, Elfreda Osbourne.
Memorial services will be held in Harrisburg, AR. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VITAS Innovative Healthcare, 5420 NW 33rd Avenue, Suite 100, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309.
