Duane George Smeryage

Duane George Smeryage, a beloved, cherished, and devoted husband and father, passed away on September 28, 2025, at the age of 76. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, on August 21, 1949, Duane was the son of Duane Everett and Julia (Rupp) Smeryage.

He attended James B. Conant High School in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Duane was a hard-working and thoughtful engineer and co-owner of NDR Corporation, where he dedicated 49 years of his career.

On August 17, 1973, Duane married Gale B. Janicek, with whom he shared a life filled with generosity and faithfulness. He is predeceased by his parents and is survived by his spouse, Gale B. Smeryage; his children Laura (Smeryage) Harms, Bevan Harms, Bonnie Smeryage, Colleen Smeryage, Peter and Jenna Smeryage; his siblings Georgia (George) Pottinger and Steven (Kim) Smeryage; and his grandchildren Hannah (Harms) Savitt, Clara (Harms) Harris, Mia Harms, Sean Harms, Capri Park, Greta Harms, Samuel Harms, Eliza Harms, John Smeryage, Madeline Smeryage, and the expected Norah Savitt.

Duane was a gentle and devoted member of Christ Community Church for 42 years, where his faithfulness was evident. He also contributed his time and efforts to his children's school, Westminster Academy, as a devoted father and volunteer.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to Holy Cross Hospital for their lifesaving efforts and the congregation of Christ Community Church for their support.

A wake will be held at Kraeer Funeral Home, located at 200 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33064, on October 3, 2025, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The funeral service will take place at Christ Community Church, 901 E McNab Rd, Pompano Beach, FL 33060, on October 4, 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, followed by a committal service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 200 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33064, at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Duane's honor to Christ Community Church.
