1934-2015
Edouard Martin was born on 11/17/1934 to Felix and Suzanne Martin, in Cap Haitien, Haiti. He went to primary school in Cap Haitien, and continued his secondary studies at College St. Louis de Gonzague in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Thereafter, Edouard moved back to Cap Haitien, where he married his first wife, Mona and they had 2 sons…Felix, and Jean-Edouard, who died at a very young age. After his divorce to Mona, Edouard left Haiti in 1963 and travelled to New York City where he had family and worked as a Sales Person in Real Estate and Insurance.
In 1971 he moved to Chicago, Illinois, and in December of that year he met his wife Micheline at a Clerie family party, and the two were married on July 15, 1972. In the years that followed, 3 children were born to them…Emile, Suzanne and Aline. As a family, they lived in Chicago, and moved to South Florida in 1986. Edouard enjoyed watching all forms of sports; Football, Basketball, Wrestling, Tennis and Golf…and especially loved watching Boxing. He even found pleasure in playing video games with his children and their cousins…Ms. Pac Man being his favorite!
Edouard continued as a traveling salesman, taking numerous road trips back to Chicago and Milwaukee throughout the years. It was during the many road trips across the country, that he developed his love of nature in all its beauty. On one of those road trips, he found The Lord, whom he was devoted to and loved until the end. Edouard was always smiling, joyful and deeply adored and loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.
On or about 2010, Edouard was diagnosed with Dementia and early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. With his health rapidly declining, on May 15, 2014 he was accepted at Heartland Care Center of Boynton Beach where the Nursing staff could provide more adequate care for his debilitating condition. Even in his diminished mental state, Edouard found a way to impact all who cared for him. His smile was uplifting and constant; everyone knew of their friendly new resident with his gentle and kind manner. Though his memory was gone and he became virtually non-verbal, he found good in everything and in everyone he encountered there and found a way to communicate through the twinkle in his eyes and his big, bright smile.
On April 24, 2015, Edouard was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was 80 years old.
Edouard is survived by his wife, Micheline Martin and his four children and their spouses. Felix and Eva Martin; Emile Martin; Roger and Suzanne Hernandez; Robert and Aline LaBar. Edouard had 6 Grandchildren; Philip Martin, Alex Martin, Kailie LaBar, Kaden LaBar, Isabella Hernandez and Malia Hernandez.
Edouard will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
