He was born in Thrase, Greece on July 1, 1909 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1923. Gus owned and ran the Greenville Delicatessen and liquor store in Jersey City N.J. until he retired and moved to Florida with his beloved wife, Anna in 1971.
Gus served his country in World War II in the Army. His greatest love, after his church and family, was this country. He carried his citizenship with great pride and passed those ideals to all his descendants. He was a life time member of the American Legion, the Order of Ahepa, and the Sons of Agatopolis. He was a man that was able to touch many lives being blessed with so many years. All who knew him say the same thing. Gus was extraordinarily special, and his family wishes to thank everyone for their kind words and condolences.
Gus was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna; son, Peter; daughter-in-law, Maureen; and granddaughter, Liz Ann Janulis.
Gus will be greatly missed by his children, Helen Pappas (Chris), and Christina Pappas (Gus); grandchildren, Chris Ann Pappas Fitzgerald (Daniel), Irene Pappas Doreste (Paul), Dean L. Pappas, Deanna Janulis, Tara Janulis, Peter Janulis, Trent Janulis, Anna Maria Renga, Chris Pappas (Dee), and Peter Pappas; great grand children, Samantha Doreste, Christopher Doreste, Emily Doreste, Nicholias Doreste, Seton Janulis, Dylan Janulis, Nicollet Janulis, Anthony Janulis, Ashley Janulis, Caitlyn Janulis, Alyssa Janulis, Mark Anthony Janulis, Taryn Janulis, Christina Renga, Dean Pappas, Daniel Christopher Fitzgerald, and Henry Gus Fitzgerald.
