Joseph Fleury Pierre was born to Avila Dossou and Fleuryval Pierre on Sunday, July 8, 1945 in Archaie, Haiti. He was the first of 10 children (Remy, Enole, Alfonse, Jacqueline, Benita, Elvie, Jean-Pierre, Clara and Marie). In his early years, he studied at 4VEH which is a missionary school in Vaudreuille, Haiti. At 4VEH he focused on agronomy and spreading the Gospel. As an agronomist, he learned to grow vegetables and cross plant breeding.
At 4VEH, he married Victoire Michel and had Fleurette and Frantz. He dedicated his life to his craft and his priority was on education and his independence. Joseph continued to support his father’s farms in Archaie by integrating his new skills and old fashion hard work. He moved to Port-au-Prince with his family in 1976. Several years later, Florence and Fleury Jr. were added to the family. Joseph’s dedication to his craft persisted with the growth of his agro-business in Archaie. Joseph would spend five days a week in Archaie and the weekend in Port-au-Prince with his family.
In December 1981, Joseph emigrated to the United States and was followed by his family within months. He joined First Haitian Baptist Church of Pompano and became a permanent fixture of the local community. As an active member of the church, he taught Sunday school and sometime preached sermons. He started is private business which incorporated his love of nature and ethics.
As a successful businessman, he never forgot where he came from. He supported women with Singer machines and cloth in Archaie. He later supported small farmers through land sharing and provided young preachers from Archaie with scholarship to 4VEH. He frequently traveled to Haiti in support of his community.
Joseph was a blessing to many who knew him and he will never be forgotten.
Joseph is survived by four siblings (Jean-Pierre, Clara, Elvie, and Benita); his wife, Victoire; four children (Fleurette, Frantz, Florence and Fleury Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Sanel; and five grandchildren (Christopher, Rebekah, Isabella, Mikhail, and Daiyu).
