Maria Fritz passed away on February 25, 2014 at the age of 92. She was a vibrant woman who embraced life. She was born and raised in New York City, and later lived in Hicksville, NY and Cranston, Rhode Island before moving to her home in Pompano Beach, Florida. Maria was an accomplished professional executive secretary for several prestigious firms. While in Long Island she was given a promotion from secretary to her boss’ job. When she lived in Rhode Island she became the first woman President of the Chamber of Commerce. She was also an active member of the Coventry Players in Warwick, Rhode Island, and appeared in several of their productions.
Maria has served as President of the Professional Women’s Club, and served for many years on the Board of Directors for Waterford Point, the condo where she lived. She was also a Notary Public and took great pleasure in performing a wedding ceremony for her neighbors and a marriage vow renewal ceremony for her friends; in her late sixties she actually went to Clown School and became a clown!
Maria considered herself blessed to be able to move with ease between the generations, and took pride in the age diversity of her many friends. She had the ability to relate to people no matter how young or old!
Her greatest joy was through her association with the Broadway Ziegfeld Entertainers. She was a performer and appeared in many of the club’s productions. She also served as its Secretary until her death. Among her duties as Secretary was arranging the Club’s monthly luncheons. In addition she was also an honorary member of the Red Hat Society.
Maria will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Maria is survived by her son Robert, her granddaughter Alison, great-grandson Alex, and her niece Angela and nephew Skip.
