Maritza Chapman

Maritza Chapman died at the age of 59, on September 17, 2023, in her Ohio home, a beautiful farmhouse, surrounded by many of her loving family members. Though her earthly body gave out after many long years of battling cancer, we rejoice knowing she has been welcomed home into the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and given a new perfected body.

Maritza is survived by her husband of 35 years Craig Chapman; her eldest son Jordan Chapman and his wife Kelsey; her middle son Jared Chapman; her daughter Bethany Bannon and her husband Jeff; her mother Maria Melendez; her siblings Eric, Renee, Diana, and their spouses; and her three beautiful grandchildren Henry, Macey, and Daniella.

Maritza is preceded in death by her mother Mary Rullan.

Many knew Maritza as Mrs. Chapman the teacher, event coordinator, Bible study teacher, musical director, Awana and VBS volunteer, and loving friend. No matter the hat she was wearing, she always had a smile on her face and a servant’s heart. Maritza was always the first to step in to help where it was needed. Her service to the Lord, through many years as a teacher at Highlands Christian Academy and Grace Baptist Church, was full of wonderful memories and friends.

The past few years, Maritza lived in Ohio with her family and was nothing short of a spectacular grandmother. She taught her grandchildren about Jesus, read them books, played games, and took them on special adventures all while remodeling an 1800’s farmhouse with her husband, Craig.

Maritza touched lives with the love of Jesus every day. Let us remember her as the vibrant and loving person that she was. The person who could out decorate anyone, celebrate every holiday of the year with style, and never forgot a birthday or special occasion for someone else.

A visitation is scheduled for September 21, 2023, from 5:00-6:00 PM for immediate family, and 6:00-9:00 PM for all other friends and loved ones. The funeral will follow the next day and is scheduled for September 22, 2023, at 10:00AM for close friends and family.
