Born in Bay Shore, New York, Marlene lived a life filled with love, resilience and an unwavering devotion to her family. Marlene grew up with a large and close-knit family. She attended Fairmont West High School in Fairmont, West Virginia, and later pursued studies at the University of Miami for one year. Her sharp mind and incredible memory were hallmarks of her personality; she had an uncanny ability to remember birthdays and family histories with remarkable detail. Marlene married the love of her life, Nathan Ballin. Their union was one of deep devotion that spanned 45 years. It was love at first sight for them. Together they built a family that was the center of Marlene’s world. She always said her children were her jewels. She is survived by her daughter Fran Ameri and son-in-law Massimiliano Ameri; her grandchildren Alexander Ameri; John, Amy and Nicholas Ballin; her daughter-in-law Bertha Ballin; former daughter-in-law Deborah Ballin; great grandchildren Molieka and Moniesa; and her great-great grandchildren Matthias, Josiah and Joseph. Marlene was predeceased by her husband Nathan; son Edward; parents Blanche and Sol and brother Sidney.
Marlene had a zest for life that was truly inspiring. Despite facing challenges throughout her journey, she maintained an indomitable spirit. She never met a stranger - her warmth drew people to her and she delighted in meeting new people and learning about their lives. Her generosity of spirit knew no bounds - she loved shopping for gifts for her loved ones as much as she enjoyed cooking meals to bring everyone together. Florida held a special place in Marlene’s heart. She adored its natural beauty. She also enjoyed exploring real estate simply for the joy of it. Marlene loved her dogs, and loved to spoil them. Marlene’s strength was only matched by her kindness. She was a sweet soul who cherished every moment spent with family and friends. Her incredible memory allowed her to keep alive the stories of generations past, while creating new memories with those she held dear. She loved telling stories and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her legacy is one of love - love for life itself, but most importantly for the family she treasured above all else. May Marlene’s memory bring comfort to all who knew her and serve as a reminder of the enduring power of love and resilience.
