

MUCHUAN MICHAEL CHEN, 78, of Coral Springs passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, surrounded by his family, after an extended illness. Michael was born in Taiwan on November 1, 1933. Throughout his professional career, he worked for the National Taiwan Symphony, National Taiwan Science Education Center, Taiwan Power Company, General Electric , and before retiring, with ABB as an electrical engineer. Michael held many degrees including a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Taiwan , a Master’s degree in Electronics from Jiao Tong University, a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University, a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania (Moore School of Engineering), and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School of Business). Michael was also an accomplished cellist and harmonicist. He was very active in various clubs and organizations including the Coral Springs Chinese Cultural Association, PLUS (Phi Lambda USA), the South Florida Harmonica Club, and the Taiwanese Association of America (South Florida Chapter). He enjoyed traveling with his wife, music, and any sort of technical gadgetry.
Surviving Michael is his loving wife of 53 years, Shinfei S. Chen of Coral Springs, FL. They were married July 19, 1959 in Penghu, Taiwan. He is also survived by a brother Hsin-Tsu Lin of Taipei, Taiwan, a son David Chen (Huifang) of Coral Springs, FL, a daughter Angeline Chen (Lee Mundy) of Bethesda, MD, and four grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Pompano Beach. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations in memory of Michael Chen to the Coral Springs Chinese Cultural Association (http://www.cscca.us/), a 501(c)(3) organization.
