

Masterson, Richard “Dick” of Fort Lauderdale, born March 31, 1926 in Brady Lake, Ohio and was raised there as well as in Kent, Ohio, passed away on November 8, 2011. An avid golfer, Dick played on the high school golf team. During WWII, Dick served with the US Army in the Pacific and was wounded, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for bravery. After the war, Dick attended Kent State University where he played on the golf team and was on the Conference Championship team in 1950, the year he graduated. Dick started his lifelong career in golf at Beechmont CC in Canton, Ohio. He also worked at Sunnehanna CC, Oakmont CC, and for the last twenty-five years of his career at Coral Ridge CC and the American Golfers Club in Fort Lauderdale. Dick played on the PGA Tour for seven years and was a member on the PGA of America for over fifty years. Considered one of the top teaching pros in the country, he wrote many articles for Golf Magazine and Golf Digest Magazine. As a Senior Professional, he competed in the Senior PGA Championship six times. Dick was married to his loving wife, Sophie, for 64 years and is survived by her ; three children: Ramona Delahunty and her husband, Mark, Mike Masterson and his wife, Danette, and Richard Jr. and his wife, Linda; by two grandchildren: Erin Krueger and her husband, Tyler, and Caitlin Delahunty. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 15th, 2-4 and 6-8pm with a 7pm funeral service at the funeral home. Interment will follow on Wednesday, November 16th at 1:15pm in the South Florida Veteran’s Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL. Arrangements were made by: Kraeer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 200 N.
