
Doris Pickens Thomas, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the Pontotoc Nursing Home. She was born in Toccopola, MS to Ira Pickens and Ethel Hodges Pickens. She was a graduate of Toccopola School and married Hubert Thomas. She was a founding member of West Heights Baptist Church. She was the retired owner and manager of fabric stores in Pontotoc, MS and Chattanooga, TN. She loved growing flowers, especially roses and daylilies which she joyfully shared with others.
Services will be at 11 AM Friday, May 29, 2015 at West Heights Baptist Church with Dr. David Hamilton officiating; burial will follow in the West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter Billie Jean Sewell and husband Dr. Lewis Sewell, her son Keith Thomas and wife Linda, all of Pontotoc, MS; four grandchildren: David Thomas and wife Beverly, Tom Sewell and wife Melissa, all of Pontotoc, MS; Lauren Ingraham and husband Jim, of Chattanooga, TN and Jeanna Boothe and husband Leigh of Madison, AL. and six great-grandchildren: Christopher Thomas and wife Candace, Katie Thomas, Emily Sewell, William Ingraham, Alex Boothe and Andrew Boothe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Cleo Coggin, Gladys French and Ruth Pickens, and brothers Halbert, Wail, Curry and Kenneth Pickens.
Pallbearers will be David Thomas, Christopher Thomas, Tom Sewell, John Suggs, Phil Lee and Tommy Morton.
Visitation will be at the church from 5 to 7 PM Thursday and from 10 to 11 AM Friday.
