Thomas Ray Shafer

Thomas Ray (Tommy) Shafer, age 58, died Friday, August 02, 2013 at his sister’s residence. He was born May 14, 1955 in Lebanon, TN to Thomas Robert Shafer and Jean Shafer Freeman. He was a member of the Pontotoc Church of Christ. He worked in sales for many years and was a self-employed painter until he became disabled. He was an avid fisherman.

Services will be at 3 PM Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Minister Evan Kirby officiating; burial will follow in the Banner Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years: Dorothy Little Shafer; a daughter: Tosha Surrette (Breck) of Water Valley, MS; a son: Chris Shafer of Banner, MS; two sisters: Patricia Hall (James) of Etta, MS and Nancy White (Michael) of Tupelo, MS; one brother: Mike Shafer (Rener) of Etta, MS; three grandchildren and fourteen nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and his step-father: Jim Freeman.

Pallbearers will be: Mark Waldrop, Adam Wortham, Breck Surrette, Jeff Oliver, Robbie Cosby and Kevin Kirby.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
