Wayne Henderson Cox

Wayne Henderson Cox, age 77, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born October 23, 1937 to Alvis and Irene Cox. He graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1955, then attended ICC where he played baseball as a pitcher. He retired from Smith and Nephew Richards. He is a retired golfer and he enjoyed playing snooker, crossword puzzles, gardening, sitting on his patio and building fires in his fire pit. He was a member of West Heights Baptist Church.

Funeral Service will be at 2:00PM Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at West Heights Baptist Church with Bro. David Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cox of Pontotoc; one daughter, Tammy (Donald) Matthews of Ecru; one son, Greg (Traci) Cox of Pontotoc; two step daughters, Natalie (Gary) Dedeaux and Nita Berry both of Pontotoc; two step sons, Chris (Mary Lise) Hutcheson of Pontotoc and Tim (Valerie) Berry of Houlka; one brother, Lowery (Carolyn) Cox of Black Zion; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Cox of Pontotoc; 12 grandchildren, Lindsey, Coley, Hayden, Dillon, Dustin, Christopher, Mallorie, Richard, Heather, Brandy, Gage and Lucas and three great grandchildren, Daniel, Kylei and Spencer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his children’s mother, Peggy Day Pounds; one brother, Zane Cox and one grandson, Tristan Stafford.

Pallbearers will be Danny Chunn, Danny Richardson, Donnie Crane, Buddy Johnson, Ross Flemming ,Tim Martin and Pete Reeder. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and his golfing friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00PM to 8:00PM Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at West Heights Baptist Church and will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers memorials please be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Sanctuary Hospice House.
