Alvin “Doc” Joseph D’Aquin departed this life into God’s presence on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the age of 89. Doc was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 1, 1935 to Alvin and Freida Schwenk D’Aquin. After graduating from Delgado Community College School of Welding, Doc went on to work at L.A. Frey & Sons meat packing plant until he relocated his family to St. Bernard Parish and began a new career with Amtrak until retirement. Doc loved and supported his community, coaching football in the St. Bernard community for many years. After being uprooted from hurricane Katrina, Doc relocated to Poplarville, Mississippi and enjoyed the country life. He was a kind man, enjoyed riding motorcycles and bicycles. Doc was strong in his faith, attending St. Joseph Catholic Church in Poplarville until his health began to decline. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Doc is preceded in death by his son, Daryl D’Aquin, brother-in-laws, Robert Rodrigue and Benny Leto and his sister-in-law, Bessie Rodrigue.
Left to forever cherish his memory are his wife, Gayle D’Aquin; daughters, Julia (Cyril) Richard, Brenda (Gregory) Toepfer, and Connie (Ricky) Marchetta; sons, Alvin (Maricel) D’Aquin III, Clay (Katrina) D’Aquin; brother, Robert (Elaine) D’Aquin; sister-in-law, Joy Leto; grandchildren, Kimberly Wood, Anthony Gobuzzi, Sarah Toepfer, Christopher Marchetta, Erick Marchetta, Jordan D’Aquin, Alvin D’Aquin IV, Katlyn D’Aquin, Elise Navarre; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 4:00pm at White Funeral Home in Poplarville. Friends are invited to join the family for visitation from 2:00pm until the service begins.
