Jenna Kay Childress the youngest daughter of Shawn and Hope Childress, she was the baby of our big family, given to us straight from God above. Jenna came into this world at 23 weeks and 6 days, she was not even a pound when she was born. She spent 145 days in the NICU, in New Orleans Children's Hospital, fighting every day to be strong and come home to her family. Her family was the reason she grew so big, the unconditional love that she received from each person she met, she gave the love right back. Jenna’s siblings from her big sisters to her big brother’s, which was the apple of her eye.
Jenna was true happiness in this world on earth she didn’t know anything but Love, Caleb used to tell her Momma could fix it, when she would poke her lip out, she would in turn smile. Jeremy could speak and her eyes would light up, knowing her bubba was near her. Charity or as Jenna would say “Cole” and smell her long hair and put her head next to Cole hair and just smell the comfort that Cole brought to her, like she couldn’t get enough of her sister. Christine showed my girl how to roll them big eyes so perfect when she was very young, and it continued even with extra sassiness the older she got, when she didn’t think you was doing what she wanted you to do. Shawn and Hope, what didn’t they do for their little girl, or any of their children, but Jenna had her daddy wrapped around her tiny fingers before she even came home from the hospital. Her mom, comments have been made she was Jenna’s heaven on earth, or if it hadn’t been for her. To ask Hope, she was just a mom doing what a mom would do for her baby. They would make sure their babies had anything in the world, any sacrifice they could make, they would.
Jenna’s family didn’t stop there, she had multiple Aunts and uncles, and cousins that she knew their voices and could tell them apart. Her grandmother could call on the phone and she would know right away and start talking. Jenna’s maw-maw was the first-person Jenna said I love you too, and daddy said it was because maw-maw would give Jenna coffee and coke when he wasn’t looking, her paw D would always say how big she had gotten and how she was his miracle baby. Jenna’s family was not just older she had “B” her nephew, and Kenzily and Cooper that referred to her as Jenna bug. Which would take time out to read her books and show her the pictures in those books. There are also Tim’s children and Danielle’s, Blake, who would love Jenna any time they were around. Jenna was not considered special needs by her family; she was considered Just simply Jenna bug!! Jenna’s family reached far and wide, as her daddy is retired Army. That’s how she came to know her Godparents, Aunt Lynn and Uncle Jeff, they watch her grow from a far but the minute we needed them they where here for not only Jenna but our entire family.
Jenna was a miracle but what was most amazing about Jenna was what many seen as an obstacle Jenna wanted to accomplish and to prove people wrong. Jenna lived a full life and was a joy to all. Her smile was so big and bright, and her laughter was infectious. She loved to run in her gate trainer and ride horsey. Jenna brought so much joy to our family and was loved by so many to include her doctors and teachers, all who were constantly amazed at what Jenna could and would do, when she wanted to. She will be missed by her family and friends, but it is with God's love that we carry on her story and love.
“Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.”
