Mark was born in Grafton, North Dakota to parents John and Leona Korczak who preceded him in death. Growing up in the heartlands of North Dakota and Minnesota, Mark developed a love for the land and a passion for hard work that would shape his years to come. He proudly served in the United States Army, a testament to his dedication to duty and country.
Mark ventured south, making New Orleans and Chalmette, Louisiana, his home for several decades. Mark shared his best years with his beloved wife of 64 years—Estelle, who preceded him in death in November 2023. Their relationship serves as a lasting example of the power of love and commitment.
In New Orleans, Mark worked as a crane operator on the Mississippi River. His skilled hands and strong work ethic were the foundation of his success. In the 1980s, Mark made the move to Lumberton, Mississippi, where he opened Clear Enterprise, a machine and welding shop that continues to thrive under the guidance of his son John today. Even in retirement, Mark never stopped working whether it was Saturdays at Shady Oaks Auction which was owned and operated by him and his family, taking care of animals on his farm, or picking blueberries every summer.
Mark was the proud father of Denise Korczak Melerine and John Korczak, who brought joy and fulfillment to his life. He shared a deep connection with his son-in-law, Keith Melerine, who preceded him in death and his daughter-in-law, Monica Korczak. Mark’s daughter Denise lovingly cared for him during the final stages of his life, a testament to the deep bond they shared.
A major source of pride for Mark was his three loving grandchildren— Courtney Chauppetta (Shane), Ashley Liuzza (Chris), and Briston Korczak— and great-granddaughter, Samantha Chauppetta. His eyes would light up with joy as he spoke of their accomplishments.
An avid sportsman, Mark found solace and joy in the great outdoors. Hunting and fishing were not just hobbies but a way of life for him. Mark was a storyteller at heart, never meeting a stranger, and was always ready to share tales of adventure.
In addition to his family mentioned above, Mark leaves behind his sister Kathy Korynta (Raymond), and brothers Thomas Korczak (Pat) and Andrew Korczak (Jaqueline), nieces and nephews, and many friends.
As we bid farewell to a great man, let us remember Mark J. Korczak for his unwavering spirit and his love for family. May he rest in eternal peace.
