He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Olga Mae Slade and brother Randy Slade.
He leaves behind his wife, Hope Slade, who he was married to for 42 years and 4 children: Joshua Slade, Nicholas Slade, Danielle Slade and Rochelle Stanley. Randall also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Randall was the hardest working person that you would ever meet and not afraid to take on any challenge. When life knocked him down, he would get right back up and hit it back in the mouth. Or as he would tell us kids when working on the farm (when we were afraid of snakes that could be hiding in the bushes), “If it bites you, just bite it back!” Even with cancer, when he was told he had 6 months to live, he did not lay down and give up. As a result, he lived for another 7 years, holding strong to his faith despite the grim outlook. A quote that I think embodies how he live is, “Courage is being afraid but saddling up anyway” (John Wayne).
Randall valued family and friends as the most prized possessions anyone could have in this life. He has many of both and all would say they were blessed and fortunate to have known him.
If he were here today and could say anything to us, I believe he would tell us to know that God is always faithful and can be trusted with all aspects of our lives. He would also tell you to have the grit to work hard for what you want even when it does not come easy because grit is about having courage to push through, no matter what the obstacles are, because it’s worth it.
The memorial service will be held at Gumpond Baptist Church, 898 Gumpond Beall Rd, Lumberton, MS 39455 on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 2:00 pm
