Ruth Eleanor Lomerson

Ruth Eleanor Lomerson, age 93, departed this life into God’s presence Tuesday, February 20, 2024. She was a member of the Woman’s Soroptimist Club. At the young age of 14 she would write vmail letters to 15 young military men overseas in World War II and she kept all the letters she received from them, and held them dear to her heart. She attended Otterbein University in Westerville Ohio, which was one of the first colleges to accept women to study the same classes as men in 1949. Ruth was a manager of a travel agency where she had many opportunities to travel. She was an excellent cook and cake decorator. She loved babysitting the little ones. Her favorite pastime was riding in the car with her beloved husband, Gerald. Ruth loved spending time at the cabin that her dad built in Michigan, where she enjoyed water skiing, snowmobiling and entertaining huge crowds. She was very involved with her churches, the first being Palm Harbor Methodist Church in Florida. She volunteered in the nursery, office and in the Braille Ministry at First United Methodist Church, in Poplarville, Mississippi.

Left to forever cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 57 years, Gerald Lomerson; seven children, Carol Beyett, Susan Starke, Nancy Bickum, Jim Lomerson, Catherine Lomerson, David Lomerson and Ronnie Lomerson; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Her family also included many dogs she raised from puppies. Her last baby was her Border Collie, Dixie.

Family and friends are invited to Ruth’s Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, March 2, 2024 for 11:00 am at The First United Methodist Church, 708 South Julia Street, Poplarville, Mississippi.
