He was predeceased by his mother, Audrey Rooney, his father, Ron DeTaeye, and his sister-in-law, Linda Lapierre.
Dan had a deep love for spending time with his close friends and family. He enjoyed relaxing down the canal at Camp-A, fishing, playing games, and indulging in good crab feasts. He found peace in long beach walks and collecting driftwood for various woodworking projects. Dan also enjoyed the casual fun of playing poker with his friends, never too serious but always up for a good time. He had a passion for smoking fish, and his famous smoked salmon pâté became a cherished treat that he loved sharing with family and friends.
Dan worked for over 30 years in the forestry industry, holding various positions, with his favorite being a driller blaster. He was known for doing things at a slower pace, which earned him the nickname “Myrtle the Turtle.” His easygoing nature and steady approach to work even led to a road being named “Turtle Pass” in his honor. Throughout his career, Dan’s dedication and work ethic were evident, and he was respected by all who worked alongside him.
A kind and gentle soul, Dan’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He will be lovingly remembered for always answering 'just groovy' when asked how he was, no matter what he was going through. His love for family, his warmth, and his generous spirit will leave an enduring legacy in the hearts of his loved ones.
Rest in Peace, Dano
