Our beloved Dilbagh Singh Rai peacefully passed away on Sept 19th, 2021 at WCGH with his family by his side.
Dilbagh Singh Rai born on April 1st, 1925 in Lehal, Punjab, India. In the early-1960’s he came to Canada and settled in Port Alberni. Since then he has been a very active member of the Port Alberni community. Dilbagh worked at the local mill Somass for the majority of his life and raised his family. Port Alberni was home for over 60 years. The Alberni Valley Gurdwara Society, the members and the volunteer service he did was an extension of him, and the love he had for his community.
For the last 35 years, Dilbagh’s main job and purpose has been to do what he enjoyed the best, being a grandfather and great grandfather, along with his service with the Alberni Valley Gurdwara Society where he was a highly valued and respected member. Even in his final days, Dilbagh was still very active and enthusiastic about life. He had a great affection towards children and looked forward to visits from all of his grandkids and great grandkids.
Dilbagh was predeceased by his elder son Bookan (Ranjit) Rai and daughter Nirmal (Amrik) Sandhu. He is survived by his wife Gurmej Kaur Rai, his sons Jodi (Surinder) Rai, and Harmesh (Kamaljit) Rai. He was a grandfather to 13 and great grandfather of 23 children. He had a great spirit and was a wonderful role model to all who knew him.
Rest in Peace Daddy Honi, we love you and will miss you tremendously.
