

Predeceased by his wife Barbara, brothers: Harry, Joe and Jack; sisters: Elsie Jones “Betty” and Alice Melton and his parents John and Annie.
He is survived by daughter Susan Deyoung (Rod Penz), grandchildren: Christine and Joshua, step grandchild Celina and one brother Ernest as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Eric was born in England and as a young man of 17 her joined the RAF and earned his qualifications as an aircraft mechanic. During his RAF service he was stationed in India and Rhodesia to name a couple. These became the seeds of many stories in his later years and fostered his lifelong love of travel.
Eric moved to Canada and met and married his wife and partner Barbara. Their love and closeness was inspiring and earned them the nickname “lovebirds” even in their eighties.
Eric worked his whole life as an airplane mechanic starting at the Picton Flying Club and then with Canadian Pacific Airlines. He retired from Canadian Airlines in 1985 as a Lead engineer.
Eric lived life to the fullest, always had a positive outlook and a great sense of humour. He will be dearly missed.
A graveside service will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Greenwood Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eric’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC, 300-828 W. 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1E2.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at WCGH for the exemplary level of care and compassion that was shown towards Eric. We are very touched, you are all amazing and blessed us so much. A special thank you to Dr. O’Dwyer and Dr. F. Meyer for overseeing dad’s care with compassion and support. As well, thank you to the emergency personnel for your kindness and comfort. A huge heartfelt “Thank you” to all of you!!
