Erma was predeceased by her husband Bruce McKee (2004) her parents, Edna and Ira Robertson, and Son-In-Law, Lawrence Herkel, sisters Fern Caldwell (Floyd) and Ruby Nelson (Mel).
She is survived by her children Grant McKee (Kim), Aileen Herkel (John Runke), Grandchildren, Summer Diduck (Aaron), Amber Bruner (Ben), Kevin Herkel (Kjersten), Darren Herkel (Ashley), Michael McKee (Kimberly). She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Luke, Jared, Kennedy, Joel, Brenden, Levi. Mom is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Erma worked for Overwaitea Foods for three years before making the commitment to start raising a family. Mom then became a full time homemaker. She spent many hours in the kitchen cooking, baking gardening and caring for her family. In mom’s spare time she would love to knit and shop and play cards. On weekend’s and summer vacations they would spend their time at Toquart Bay fishing and camping. After Bruce’s retirement the two of them became snowbirds, going to Yuma, Arizona every year for the next ten years. This was always a trek they looked forward to. They were always anxious to meet their friends in Yuma and did many excursions with them.
In 2009, because of mom’s failing health she had to move from the family home to Echo Village. She enjoyed painting and socializing while she could. She also enjoyed visits from family and friends. She resided there until her death.
Erma was also an active member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, since 1941. She embraced her religion and made it her own, always worshiping Jehovah every day of her life.
It is a comfort to know that mom, for the most part, had a very good life. We would like to thank all that visited her over the years. She enjoyed every minute of it.
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Wittnesses, 5505 Maebelle Road, Port Alberni, on Saturday April 14th, 2012 at 1:00. Condolences may be forwarded to the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca
