Hélène Marie Jeanne Dufour passed away on February 14, 2026, at the age of 61. Born on July 16, 1964, in Montreal, Hélène ventured to British Columbia as a young woman to learn English. She fell in love with the proximity to the ocean and decided that the Island would become her new home.
In 1985/86, she worked for Team Canada Sailing at the America’s Cup in Fremantle, Australia, and Cannes in the South of France. After learning English, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition at McGill University and became a Registered Dietitian. For 25 years, she dedicated herself to Public Health as the Community Nutritionist for Alberni Valley, West Coast, and Oceanside. Her passion for health, nutrition, and community was widely respected throughout her territory.
At home, Hélène was an amazing cook, finding joy in nourishing her friends and family with good food. She leaves behind her two children, Chantal and Kimberley (Luis), her husband Todd, her brother Benoit, her mother Denise, many extended family members and friends.
Hélène cherished spending time at her cabin at Salmon Beach and enjoyed long walks along the ocean shore, searching for sea glass. She loved being on the ocean, cruising and fishing on the family boat, as well as travelling.
The family extends their gratitude to BC Cancer, Palliative Care Dr. Woodley, the great Homecare Nurse Team, and Alberni Hospice. A very special thanks to Dr. David Johnson, whose exceptional care and availability during Hélène's final two years brought her great comfort.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
