Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Glen “Buster” in 2000, her son Gordon in 1986, her parents Nels and Stina Guldager and her brothers Albert, Alfred, Hjalmar and Henry.
She is survived by her loving family: daughter Shirley Chatwin (Tony); daughter-in-law Margaret deBoucier (John); grandchildren Colleen Chatwin (Dean Poulsen), Steve Chatwin (Nadine), Sheri Duchen (Jamie), Joanne See (Albert) and John Weismiller (Carolyn); great grandchildren Brock and Cody Chatwin, Taylor and Morgan Duchen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Nancy was born on a farm near Hitchcock, Saskatchewan on July 8, 1917. In 1933 at the age of 16 she bravely boarded a train and travelled by herself to Port Alberni to join her brother, Albert, and his family. She found work as a live-in housekeeper, staying with the same family for several years. She met her future husband, Buster, at a local dance. They were married on June 5, 1940.
Nancy was a devoted wife and mother, maintaining a wonderful home for her family and working side-by-side with Buster when he established his construction business. Nancy loved her garden and also enjoyed sewing, bowling, traveling in the motorhome and fishing in the canal. In later years, she joined the Sunshine Club, where she enjoyed taking part in the activities and spent many happy hours playing crib and whist.
We will always treasure Nancy’s wonderful temperament. She was always calm, supportive, accepting, forgiving and ever-loving. Her advice for a long, happy life is never to worry.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, February, 15, 2013 at 1:00pm at the Alberni Valley Memorial Gardens, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband Buster. Following the graveside a celebration of life will take place at the Hospitality Inn. Donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to Fir Park Village/Echo Village Foundation, 4411 Wallace Street, Port Alberni, BC V9Y 7Y5.
