René will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years Gail; children Michelle (Jeff), René Jr. (Tara), Crystal (Doug); grandchildren Nikolas, Natasha, Kole, Kayden, Joshua, Madison; great-granddaughter Maria; brother Gary, stepmother Jeanne, special fur baby Lucy, numerous other family members and friends.
René was born and raised in Port Alberni B.C. Growing up in a small town he made many close friends. It was one of those friends who brought Gail along to give him a ride home one day. Let’s say this was the start of their many years together. What sealed the deal was the day Gail made him his favourite dessert, a Lemon Meringue pie!
René married Gail, the love of his life in April 1973, followed by the birth of Michelle in 1973, René Jr. in 1974, and Crystal in 1975. His family was his pride and joy who he loved with all his heart. This grew even more when he and Gail were blessed with their grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
René was a hard worker and spent most of his career employed in various divisions of M&B and eventually for Roc-Star as a driller/blaster.
He had many passions over the years. He was a proud owner of a 1956 Chevy Convertible and was an original Golden Oldies Car Club member. There were many stories shared of car club camp outs, bed races, tug of wars, car shows and dances. All were great times with great friends.
He loved animals and they loved him. They would follow him everywhere which earned him the name " the dog whisperer " and aka " the treat guy ".
He collected dragons, big, small, colorful, shiny, crystal and plush ones that he proudly displayed through the house. The family yard has a large maple tree that provides a cool place to hang out on those hot summer days. He could be found visiting with family and friends, or napping in his hammock, or enjoying a cold one all the while listening to music (usually loud).
René was a star gazer. He enjoyed looking up into the night sky finding constellations through his telescope and sharing his sightings. We will carry on his love of star gazing and look up in the beautiful night sky thinking of him.
René was predeceased by his parents; Marcel and Adeline (Jack) Boyce; sister Adele Francoeur and brother Russell.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved and will live on in our smiles, laughter and memories.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of René’s life will be held at a later date in the summer.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. D White, Melissa, Beaver Creek Fire Dept. and B.C. Ambulance for their care and compassion.
