

Ruth passed away peacefully on December 9, 2012 at the age of 92 at The Lodge on 4th, in Ladysmith, after battling cancer. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Harriet, her brothers, Alec and Ralph, and her niece, Cheryl Poole. She is survived by her nieces, Patricia (David) McKinlay (Nanaimo) and Brenda (Bob) Bengert (Kamloops) and their families; nephews, Robert (Cold Lake, Alta.), Jim (Edmonton), and Bill (Australia), as well as great nieces and great nephews. Ruth was born in Vancouver and lived in Port Alberni, from the age of two. She worked at Port Alberni's Plywood Mill for 39 years, initially as a labourer, and later on as the First Aid attendant, before retiring in 1981. For the past 18 years, Ruth resided at Woodgrove Pines Apartments, in Nanaimo, and spent the last four months as a resident at The Lodge on 4th, in Ladysmith. A funeral service for Ruth will take place at the Chapel of Memories - 4005 Sixth Avenue, Port Alberni, on Monday, December 17th at 1:00 p.m., with Reverend Minnie Hornidge presiding. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Port Alberni. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family would like to thank the amazing staff on the 4th floor (Cormorant) at The Lodge on 4th, in Ladysmith, the wonderful pharmaceutical staff at Shopper's Drug Mart (North Island Hwy), and her family doctor, Dr. Miguel Pereira.
