Born to parents Alexander and Mary Pearson, mom was the baby of 5 siblings and the wife of the late Edward (Ted) Roberts Sr. Sylvia was born and raised in Ottawa and after graduation, worked as an administrator at one of the large insurance companies.
Mom met Dad at an Armed Forces dance and after getting married, she gave everything up to move to the promised paradise, a logging camp at Great Central Lake. Mom was a city girl, who loved to dress up and she was often asked where the party was. But she adjusted to the camp life like a trooper, living there for 5 years before the camp closed forcing everyone to relocate. This move took us closer to town.
Mom took her career as a fulltime mother very seriously. She was the matriarch of our large family and we've been left without our life-long beacon of guidance and advice. She loved nothing more than hearing our stories. Mom was an avid bowler and a great armchair quarterback, loving to watch American Football. Kansas City was her most recent favorite (they had the cutest quarterback!) She also loved watching the Vancouver Canucks and following our Dads beloved Bulldogs hockey team. But, what was more important to Mom more than anything, was watching all and any sports her children and grandchildren participated in.
During mom's last year, she moved into Abbyfield, where the wonderful staff and many new and old friends gave her a great new social life.
Sylvia was predeceased by her 5 siblings, the love of her life, husband Ted and great grandson Lane Reynolds. She is survived by her children, Donna Reynolds (Brad), Ted Roberts Jr. (Brigitte), Susan Shedden (Jim), Sean Roberts (Sherri), Tina Steed (Glen). Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, many of whom still live in Port Alberni.
We would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at West Coast Hospital for their care and especially Ty Watson House. The loving and caring staff there made Mom's last week very comfortable and helped us cope with our upcoming loss.
A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Anyone wishing to remember Sylvia with a donation, we ask that you please consider TY WATSON HOUSE for the invaluable, caring service that they offer to Port Alberni.
Thank you all for your love, support and comfort during this difficult time, we all miss her deeply.
