Cynthia was born in 1959 to Kenneth and Beverley (ne Entwistle of Christchurch, New Zealand) Meyer at Edwards AFB CA the first of their two children.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her brother Craig Anthony
She is survived by her parents and a nephew Anthony James who lives in Eugene OR.
Her death was Dementia related head trauma from falling.
Cynthia was a "precious" Special Ed child who touched the hearts of all who knew her.
She was a gentle soul.
Her parents took offense at the doctor’s comments at 2 weeks after her birth that she was "Downs" and should be put on a list for placement in an institution. After the family returned to CA in 1964 from an assignment to Randolph AFB TX Cynthia was placed in a Trainable class as was dictated by CA IQ test requirements. When her parents pressured for Educable work they were told " she is just a happy child, let her be as she will never learn to read or write".
Upon her father's assignment to Eielson AFB, near Fairbanks AK in 1969, within 3 months at Birch School at Ft Wainright she was moved quickly into an Educable class where she started to "blossom" and had learned to tie her shoes and spell words as difficult as "Elephant".
Cynthia returned to Edwards AFB with her parents and after much resistance and "re-evaluation testing" finally was allowed into the educable class there. She promptly showed her worth and got a girl student there talking who had never uttered a sound in the class before. Upon her father's retirement they returned to Fairbanks where Cynthia took classes at Lathrop High School and Hutchinson Career Vocational School. In 1976 she started working at McDonalds until moving with her family to live in New Zealand in Dec 1999 until May 2001 visiting family and friends there until returning with her family to reside in Port Angeles WA. After a very short interview she returned to work almost immediately for McDonalds in P.A. finally completing close to 33 years of service and only, reluctantly, due to the effects of dementia, she had to retire.
Cynthia was hard working, dedicated and productive member of society where during the period of 80's and 90's she worked on projects supporting members of Emblem 109 and Elks 1551 in Fairbanks AK She was asked to be an officer in Emblem 109 and served as guard for a year never missing a meeting. Then the second year she accepted the position of 1st Trustee and for the installation ceremony she had learned her speaking part, by memory, when others read heir’s from pamphlets the speaking parts for the installation ceremony.
"Sis", as all those close friends and family called her, will be sorely missed.
Her ashes will be placed in her niche at Ocean View Cemetery in Port Angeles, WA next to her brother's.
There will be no services. In lieu of flowers donations in her name to the National Alzheimer' Research is requested.
Arrangements handled by Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel 105 West Fourth Street, Port Angeles, WA 98362 (360) 452-9701
