Amos Smith,

He moved to North Port 6 years ago coming from Mahwah, New Jersey. Mr. Smith started the Police and Fire Academy in Bergen County, NJ; he was Fire Chief and Fire Marshal for Bergen County Fire District and retired from the New Jersey Port Authority as a safety inspector.

Mr. Smith was an honorary life member of the Mahwah Fire Department Company No. 1; a member of the New Jersey State Fire Chiefs Association; a member of Hawthorne Fortitude Masonic Lodge No. 200 in Ramsey, NJ; a member of the Scottish Rite, and a member of the Shrine Temple in Mahwah, New Jersey.

He was a member of Ramapo Reformed Church in Mahwah, NJ, and was the caretaker of the church cemetery.

Survivors include his daughter, Alison A. Rustin of North Port, Florida; his sons, Amos A. Smith of Monks Corner, SC; Bill Smith of Pecan Gap, Texas; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
