
Avery Clifford Peden of Venice, Florida, died Tuesday, October 6, 2015. He was 93. Avery was born on March 7, 1922 in Schlater, Mississippi, to Ina Griffin Peden and Earl Peden. He had two sisters, Mattie Bell Robinson and Doris Gray, both deceased. His parents moved to Philadelphia, Mississippi, when he was a young boy and that is where he went to school. Avery was attending junior college when WW II broke out. After a plea for men to enlist he and a friend decided to enlist in the Navy. Three years later he received an honorable discharge after the submarine he was stationed on was sank by a torpedo.
On June 5, 1946 Avery married Maxine Marshall. They were married for 57 years before Maxine passed with Lymphoma. They lived in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, for 30 years and retired to Venice, Florida in 1984.
Survivors include three children: Kenneth Peden of Denver; Ron Peden of Denver and Karen Peden Brandell of Orlando. There are 6 grandchildren and 9 great -children.
Avery spent his life as a devout Christian and was a member of the Calvary Bible Church in Venice, Florida. By trade he was an electrician and fishing was one of his favorite pastimes. His love of sports was passed on to his children and were often topics of conversation.
A Graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:30 pm, Friday October 9, 2015 at Gulf Pines Memorial Park.
