Benjamin Franklin Lowe, 87, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away March 31, 2013. He was born February 12, 1926 in North Ft Myers, FL to Leffie and Bellah Lowe. After a few months, the family moved to Punta Gorda. Ben graduated from Charlotte High and then joined the Navy. After returning home, he went to work at the local paper, then known as the Punta Gorda Herald News. He worked there for 45 years, the later years as Press Foreman. He enjoyed coaching Little League baseball for 17 years.
Ben is survived by his wife, Barbara Lowe of Punta Gorda, FL; sons, Stan Lowe of Angier, NC and Mark Lowe of Gainesville, FL; daughter Terri Lowe-Douglass of Lake Butler, FL; step-sons, Jim and Brian Longstreth of St Petersburg, FL and Clay Longstreth of Bradenton, FL; four sisters, three brothers, five grandchildren and two step grandchildren, one great grandson and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday April 6, 2013 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Tidewell Hospice at tidewell.org.
