Charles P. “Charlie” Flynn, Sr., 98, of Port Charlotte, Florida, beloved husband of the late Josephine (Masi) Flynn and a former 87-year resident of Norwalk, Connecticut, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Born on November 13, 1927, in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn, New York, Charlie was the son of William and Frances (Smith) Flynn. He moved with his family to Norwalk, Connecticut, in the early 1930s, where he was educated in local schools. From a young age, he worked in his family’s ice business, learning the value of hard work and dedication.
Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in Hawaii with the Coast Artillery Division. He achieved the rank of Sergeant before receiving his honorable discharge.
Following his military service, Charlie met his bride, started a family and purchased their home in East Norwalk, CT.
He built a long and steady career. He worked at Connecticut Light and Power and Edwards Corporation before spending many years at Burndy Corporation, where he remained until his retirement in 1990. Never one to stay idle, Charlie later started his own airport transportation business and also transported vehicles for several local car dealerships. In 2018, he relocated to Florida.
He was an avid fan of UCONN Basketball and the New York Mets, and would regularly attend local stock car races with his son, and nephew Bill Flynn.
Charlie was predeceased by his beloved wife of more than 64 years, Josephine; his daughter, Mary Flynn; his brothers, William, Robert, and Joseph Flynn; and his sisters, Patricia Gherson and Joan Holland.
He is survived by his son, Charles P. Flynn, Jr. of Punta Gorda, Florida; his brother-in-law, Dr. James Masi (Patricia) of Holyoke, Massachusetts; his sisters-in-law, Barbara Marzolf of Norwalk, Connecticut, and Evelyn Flynn of Fountain Valley, California; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home and Tidewell Hospice for their compassionate and devoted care in his final years.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Charlie’s life at Mission Barbecue, 1340 Tamiami Trail Port Charlotte, FL on Sunday March 1, 2026 from 5:00 - 7:30pm.
A funeral service will be held 11:00am May 18, 2026, at St Thomas the Apostle Parish in Norwalk, Connecticut, followed by interment at St John’s Cemetery, also in Norwalk. Further details on the CT service will be announced in the near future.
