

Charles Walter O'Connell, known affectionately as Charlie to his family and friends, passed away on February 7, 2025, in Port Charlotte, Florida, at the age of 42. Born on May 1, 1982, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Charles was a gentle and kind soul who made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Charles was a proud graduate of Salem NH High School, class of 2001. He continued his education at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, Massachusetts, before attending Hillsborough Community College South Shore in Florida. His pursuit of knowledge and personal growth was a testament to his thoughtful nature.
Following his educational endeavors, Charles answered the call of duty and served his country with honor in the Army infantry and the Army National Guard. His service was a significant part of his life, and he held a deep sense of pride in being a veteran. Charles's patriotism and love for his country were unwavering, and those who knew him were inspired by his commitment.
Charles's work ethic and dedication were also evident in his civilian life, where he made meaningful connections through his various roles. His involvement in associations and community groups was a reflection of his desire to make a positive impact on those around him.
Beyond his professional and military life, Charles was a devoted father and cherished the time he spent with his sons. He relished moments spent at the beach with his boys, where laughter and joy were abundant. Charles's love for his children was the centerpiece of his life, and his legacy of love and kindness will live on through them.
A natural in the kitchen, Charles enjoyed experimenting with recipes and spices, often delighting family and friends with his culinary creations. His love for cooking was just another way he expressed his care for others, providing comfort and warmth through his dishes.
Animals held a special place in Charles's heart, and he possessed a unique bond with every creature he encountered, especially dogs. His gentle spirit was recognized by all, both human and animal alike.
Gaming with his sons and friends was another of Charles's favorite pastimes. These shared experiences brought him immense joy and allowed him to connect with his loved ones on a playful and competitive level.
Charles's is survived by his loving mother, Marsha O'Connell; his sister, Sarah O'Connell, his children, Mark and Gabriel of Lakeland, FL and Luke and Gavin of Parrish, FL; nephews, Colin and Elliot Atkinson of Mt Airy, MD. He will also be deeply missed by his aunts and uncles, Nick and Sheila DeMai of Kittyhawk, NC, Walt and Kate Suchon of Dartmouth, MA, Richard and Susan Gregory of Salem, NH, Thomas and Ruth Burke of Groveland, MA, Robert and Eryn Murphy of Methuen, MA, and Edward and Melissa Murphy of West Virginia, mother in law, Deborah Sodders and sister in law, Kimberly Sodders from Lakeland, FL. He also leaves behind many cousins who will cherish his memory. Charles was preceded in death by his father, Mark James O'Connell.
Charles's life was marked by thoughtfulness, gentleness, and kindness. These attributes defined him as a man and will be the guiding light for his family as they navigate the world without him. His spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will be treasured forever.
